
Lady Flames Fall to Marshall, UConn on Day 2 of Liberty Softball Invitational

Competing on day two of the Liberty Softball Invitational, Marshal run-ruled Liberty 8-0 in six innings before UConn posted a 7-1 win over the Lady Flames.
Liberty is now 6-12 on the season, while Marshall improves to 13-8 including 4-0 at this weekend's invitational. UConn (4-13) plays Radford this evening.

Turning Point
- Marshall's first batter of the game, Bella Gerlach, homered, setting the tone for the day. The Thundering Herd hit three homers, with Sydni Burko's third inning grand slam giving Marshall a 5-0 lead. Gerlach's second homer of the game pushed the difference to eight runs, as the guests won in run-rule fashion.
- Marshall held a 7-5 edge in hits, with both teams committing one error.
- Maddie Veal (3-2) pitched a five-hit shutout, striking out three.
- Camden Anders (2-1) drew the loss, allowing five runs on four hits, walking one and fanning two in two innings pitched before giving way to Gabby Mike and Danner Allen.
- Burko went 1-for-4 with a grand slam, four RBI and one run scored, while Gerlach batted 3-for-3 with two homers, two RBI and three runs scored. Paige Simpson went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
- For Liberty, Alexia Carrasquillo batted 3-for-3.Â
- Marshall leads Liberty 13-8 all-time in softball. Liberty had won each of the last five meetings. Prior to today, Marshall's last win over Liberty came on April 13, 2016.
- Carrasquillo recorded her second career three-hit game, with both coming against Marshall (also March 11, 2025 at Marshall).
- Carrasquillo pushed her hitting streak to eight games, the longest hitting streak by a Lady Flame so far this season.Â

- Liberty took a 1-0 lead on a third-inning sacrifice fly by Alexia Carrasquillo in the bottom of the third. UConn responded with a two-run double by Heidi Barber.
- The Huskies broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning and relief pitcher Jessica Walter finished off the victory for UConn.
- UConn outhit the Lady Flames 9-5 for the game. Liberty committed one error. The Huskies left nine runners on base, while Liberty stranded seven.
- Walter (3-3) earned the win, pitching 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief with one strikeout following the start of Caprice Bohmer.
- Kaylan Yoder (0-3) drew the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in four innings pitched. Caitlyn Nesbitt (two innings) and Abigail Findlay (one inning) both pitched in relief for Liberty.
- Savannah Ring batted 3-for-4 with one run scored, while Kaitlyn Breslin batted 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. Hakey Coupal went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Ella Fox went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and one run scored for Liberty. Alexia Carrasquillo recorded a sacrifice fly.Â
- UConn tied the all-time series at 1-1 with Liberty, with both meetings taking place at Liberty Softball Stadium.
- Carrasquillo recorded her team-leading second sacrifice fly of the season, despite seeing her hitting streak snapped at eight games.Â
