Turning Point
- With the game tied at 1-1 entering the third inning, both teams loaded the bases with nobody out in the third. The Lady Flames scored five runs, getting RBI from Alexia Carrasquillo (single), Paige Doerr (two-run double), Dani Lee (sacrifice fly) and JaMaya Byrum (fielder's choice) to take a 6-1 lead. Virginia Tech managed just one run in the third, on a wild pitch.
- Virginia Tech narrowed the gap to 6-4 on a two-run homer by Nora Abromavage in the bottom of the fifth, but Liberty capitalized on a Hokies error in the sixth to lead 7-4.
- The Lady Flames added on insurance runs in the top of the seventh, as Ella Fox made it 9-4 with a two-run single with one out. Savannah Jessee's two-out RBI single pushed Liberty's lead to 10-4.
- Abigail Findlay had two outs and one on in the bottom of the seventh inning. Zoe Yaeger hit a two-run single, and Michelle Chatfield followed with an RBI triple. Rachel Castine's two-run homer brought the Hokies to within one at 10-9. Caitlyn Nesbitt then came on, giving up a single before getting the final out on a groundout and nailing down the save.
- Virginia Tech outhit Liberty 12-9 for the game. The Hokies committed two errors, compared to one miscue by the Lady Flames.
- Liberty starter Abigail Findlay (4-1) earned the win, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, walking one and striking out three. Caitlyn Nesbitt claimed her first career save, allowing one hit in 1/3 of an inning.
- Avery Layton (7-2) drew the loss, allowing five runs on four hits, walking four in two innings as the starter. Emma Mazzarone yielded five runs (four earned) on four hits, walking four and fanning two in 4 1/3 innings. Bree Carrico pitched 2/3 innings of one-hit relief.
- Ella Fox went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Savannah Jessee batted 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Alexia Carrasquillo batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run, while Paige Doerr went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and one run. Dani Lee doubled and drove in one run, while Brynn McManus scored twice.
- Jordan Lynch paced the Hokies' attack with a 3-for-3 game, scoring twice. Nora Abromavage (1-for-4) and Rachel Castine (2-for-4) both hit two-run homers. Zoe Yaeger went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
- Virginia Tech leads the all-time series with Liberty 45-17. The two teams split the season series this year, with the Hokies winning 9-0 over the Lady Flames last Wednesday in Lynchburg. The Hokies had won each of the last nine meetings since a 5-3, nine-inning Liberty win on April 28, 2021. Liberty's last win at Virginia Tech before tonight was March 30, 2016, a 2-1 Lady Flames victory.
- The Lady Flames are 6-1 in one-run games this season, winning each of the last two games by one run each.
- Liberty is 1-9 this season against Top 25 teams. The Lady Flames are 31-139 all-time against nationally-ranked opponents and 25-98 under current Head Coach Dot Richardson.
- Findlay is the first Liberty freshman pitcher to earn a win over a Top 25 team since April 9, 2024, when Katie Love tossed a shutout in a 1-0 Lady Flames win over the 24th-ranked Cavaliers in Charlottesville.
