Michigan Tops Liberty 8-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Michigan continued its Virginia trip with an 8-0, five-inning victory over Liberty on Tuesday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium, with Wolverine sophomore Kate Meyers tossing a no-hitter.

The Wolverines improve to 16-5 on the season, while the Lady Flames fall to 6-13 with their third setback in a row.

Turning Point

Three batters into the game, Michigan staked itself to a 3-0 lead. Indiana Langford walked and Jenissa Conway reached on an error. Then, Lauren Putz' 11^th homer of the season made it 3-0.
A five-run fourth inning put the game out of reach, and Meyers pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning to finish off the no-hitter.

Notable Numbers

Michigan led 7-0 in hits, with Liberty committing three errors. The Wolverines left seven runners on base, compared to one stranded by the Lady Flames.
Meyers (5-1) pitched her first collegiate no-hitter, allowing one walk and striking out two while facing one batter over the minimum.
Danner Allen (2-1) drew the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) on five hits, walking five and striking out one before giving way to Caitlyn Nesbitt (1/3 of an inning) and Gabby Mike (one inning).

Michigan evened the all-time series with Liberty in softball at 2-2. The Lady Flames won the last meeting before today, 6-5 on an Amber Bishop-Riley walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Feb. 23, 2020.
Liberty is now 5-1 all-time against Big Ten teams in Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium history, including 1-1 this season.
Tonight marked the 10^th no-hitter in stadium history and third by an opposing pitcher.
