
Liberty Edges WKU 3-2 in Series Opener

With the win, Liberty (19-20, 12-4 CUSA) is now in sole possession of second place in the CUSA standings, one game ahead of WKU (28-9, 11-5) and two games behind first-place Jacksonville State (14-2). WKU saw its six-game winning streak come to a close.

Turning Point
- Liberty raced out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, getting two RBI from Dani Lee (sacrifice fly, RBI single) and a sacrifice fly from Brynn McManus.
- WKU entered the scoring column in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Morgan Sharpe and Katie Murphy. Gabby Mike then entered the circle in relief of Camden Anders.
- In the top of the sixth, Liberty center fielder Paige Doerr threw out Murphy trying to score from second on a two-out single, keeping the score 3-1.
- After a leadoff homer by WKU's Kendle White in the top of the seventh inning, Gabby Mike retired one more batter before Anders came on in relief to get the final two outs.
- WKU outhit Liberty 9-3 for the game. The Hilltoppers left seven on base while the Lady Flames stranded four.
- Anders (10-3) improved to a perfect 7-0 in CUSA play, allowing one run on four hits in four total innings, walking one and fanning one. Gabby Mike pitched three innings, yielding one run on five hits, also walking one and striking out one.
- Erica Houge (15-4) drew the loss, allowing three runs on three hits while walking four.
- Dani Lee batted 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI, while Brynn McManus drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Alexia Carrasquillo went 1-for-3with a double and one run scored.
- Kendle White (homer, one RBI, one run), Morgan Sharpe (double, one run) and Katie Murphy (double, one RBI) had two hits apiece for the Hilltoppers.
- Liberty leads the all-time series against WKU in softball 6-4, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last six meetings.
- The Lady Flames are now 4-1 this season in games decided by one run.
- McManus is now tied with both Alexia Taylor (2015-18) and Rachel Roupe (2022-25) for third in program history with 10 career sacrifice flies,
- Lee extended her hitting streak to 10 games, the longest hitting streak by a Liberty player so far this season. Her 10-game hitting streak is the longest by a Liberty freshman since 2017 (Autumn Bishop). Lee trails on Alycia Stevens (23 games and 14 games in 1995) and Stacy Radulovich (11 games in 1996) for longest hitting streak by a freshman in program history.
- Today marked the first time Liberty has won a game when recording three or fewer hits since April 9, 2024, when the Lady Flames registered two hits in a 1-0 win at Virginia. Liberty had lost each of its last 11 game when being held to three hits or fewer prior to today.
The Lady Flames and Hilltoppers continue this weekend's series, tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Liberty Softball Stadium.
