Turning Point
- Virginia Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead, as Jordan Lynch hit a two-run homer in the first and added an RBI double in the second.
- The Lady Flames threatened to score in the bottom of the second, getting hits from Maci Strickland and Brooke Roberts. Hokies starter Bree Carrico struck out Savanah Whatley to keep Liberty off the board.
- The Hokies outhit the Lady Flames 11-4 for the game, with Liberty committing one error. Virginia Tech left nine on base, while the hosts stranded four.
- Carrico (12-0) earned the win, allowing three hits and striking out four in four shutout innings. Avery Layton claimed the save, her first of the season, yielding one hit and fanning one in three relief innings.
- Gabby Mike (2-9) drew the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits, walking five and striking out four in four innings. Danner Allen yielded four runs on four hits in three innings, also issuing one walk.
- Addison Foster batted 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Jordan Lynch went 2-for-5 with a double, homer, three RBI and one run scored. Gaby Mizelle hit a grand slam, driving in four and scoring once. Zoe Yaeger and Rachel Castine recorded two hits apiece.
- Brynn McManus, Maci Strickland, Paige Doerr and Brooke Roberts each had one hit.
- Virginia Tech leads the all-time series against Liberty 45-16, with the Hokies winning each of the last nine meetings. The Hokies have posted three straight shutouts over the Lady Flames, a streak which started last season.
- The Lady Flames are 0-9 this season against nationally-ranked opponents.
- Virginia Tech was ranked No. 10 in the D1Softball, Softball America and NFCA national polls.
- Tonight's first-pitch temperature of 89 degrees tied the hottest first-pitch temperature in the history of Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. The other two 89-degree games were May 17, 2017 against Ohio and May 4, 2018 versus Winthrop.
The Lady Flames head on the road for the next four games, beginning with a three-game series at FIU, Friday through Sunday in Miami, Fla.
