
Liberty Finishes 2nd at American Conference Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a runner-up finish at the 2026 American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship, which wrapped up on Saturday at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Rice claimed its second American Conference title in a row, scoring 1,404.5 points. The Lady Flames finished second with 1,250 points, followed by East Carolina with 1,009.5.
Liberty had won seven straight conference titles (CCSA/ASUN) heading into this, its first American Conference Championship appearance.

Liberty's qualified divers will compete in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, held March 9-11 in Annapolis, Md. Selections for the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be officially announced on March 2.

- So. Layne Jones – 200 backstroke (8th place in 2:04.53 - qualified in 1:59.67)
- So. Aly Bozzuto – 200 breaststroke (1st place in 2:09.47 – qualified in 2:12.09)
- Jr. Kayla Walsh – Platform diving (5) (4th place in 223.20 – qualified in 203.05)
- Jr. Shannon Icard – Platform diving (5) (5th place in 214.60 – qualified in 242.45)
- 400 freestyle relay – 1st place in 3:16.84 (Natalie Colarossi – 50.96; Dakota Howard – 48.88; Aly Bozzuto – 48.81; Kamryn Cannings – 48.19)
- Liberty recorded nine top-eight finishes on Saturday, including four podium finishes, three event victories, two NCAA automatic qualifiers and one NCAA Zone qualifier. For the meet, Liberty posted 29 top-eight finishes, 14 podiums and eight event victories. The Lady Flames set three program record, earning five automatic qualifications to the NCAA Championships and two NCAA Zone qualifications.
- Any swimmer who wins an event this weekend and meets the NCAA qualifying standard will earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. Aly Bozzuto (50 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke) and Kamryn Cannings (100 fly, 100 free) have both earned their spot at NCAA nationals.
- Bozzuto earned Most Outstanding Swimmer of the American Conference Championship Meet, winning three events this week (50 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke). She is the fourth Lady Flame to earn a conference most outstanding swimmer of the championship meet and first since Kamryn Cannings at the 2025 ASUN meet.
- Gwyneth Frick earned Most Outstanding Freshman Swimmer of the American Conference Championship Meet, winning the 100 back, finishing second in the 200 back and fourth in the 200 IM.
- Aly Bozzuto clinched her fifth career conference individual-event win, swimming a program-record 2:09.47 to win the 200 breaststroke A Final.
- Kamryn Cannings won the 100 freestyle in a program-record 48.40, earning an NCAA automatic berth in the process.
- The Lady Flames' 400 free relay of Natalie Colarossi, Dakota Howard, Aly Bozzuto and Kamryn Cannings posted a resounding win in 3:16.84 to close out the meet.
- Frick finished as runner-up in the 200 backstroke in 1:55.61, while Malia Francis (4th – 1:56.52) and Layne Jones (8th – 2:04.53) also competed in the A Final.
- Kayla Walsh finished fourth in platform diving, while Shannon Icard finished fifth).
- Eden Troxell finished her career with a seventh-place finish in the 1650 freestyle, clocking a 16:57.04.
- The Lady Flames opened the evening with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay in 7:15.68.
- Kayla Walsh earned an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 293,90 in the three-meter A Final, placing fifth. She joins teammates Mercy Goodnight and Shannon Icard as Lady Flames who will compete at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
- Liberty, James Madison and Marshall are all in their first year as affiliate members in the American Conference for swimming & diving.
