Liberty Announces Jensen as New Diving Coach

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Abigail Jensen, one of Liberty's original divers, has been hired as Liberty's Diving Coach, it was announced today by Liberty Swimming & Diving Head Coach Jake Shellenberger.
"Associate Head Coach Jessica Barnes and I are thrilled to welcome Abigail Jensen to Liberty as our new diving coach," Shellenberger said. "One of our original divers, Abigail brings a wealth of experience and love for Liberty and the program back to the mountain, and we are excited for the future of this program and our divers specifically."
Jensen received coaching experience during her time as a diver at Liberty, as she competed for the Lady Flames from 2018 through 2022. While at Liberty, she coached home school divers, providing technical instruction, individualized feedback, skill development and support while reinforcing fundamentals and safe progression. She also served as a diving coach at Liberty's summer camps during her college career, coaching divers across varying ability levels, adapting technical instruction and feedback to individual learning needs and skill progression.
Prior to her time at Liberty, she served as an assistant/student coach for a men's high school diving team, while also providing youth diving coaching support for her local club program.
Jensen served as a project analyst for Infinity Communications, LLC from 2023 through 2026. She led and supported complex cross-functional initiatives requiring strategic planning, coordination, problem solving, stakeholder communication, risk management and accountability for outcomes.
A native of Blaine, Minn., Jensen served as an elected team captain as both a junior and senior for the Lady Flames. She served in a leadership role centered on communication, accountability, team culture and supporting fellow student-athletes.
Jensen helped usher in a new era of Liberty diving, as she was one of three Lady Flames freshmen to compete at the 2019 NCAA Division I Zone A Diving Championships. She competed at Zones as both a freshman and sophomore. A six-time CCSA A Finalist, Jensen earned a third-place finish on one-meter at the 2020 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. Jensen was named CCSA Diver of the Week on Oct. 15, 2019, and was a CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention in 2019. Entering the 2026-27 season, Jensen ranks fourth in program history in platform diving (223.28), fifth on one-meter (277.35) and 10th on three-meter (283.50).
She graduated from Liberty in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and was named to the Dean's List all eight semesters. She also received Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
