
Bozzuto, Cannings Open Competition at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – Liberty junior Kamryn Cannings (100 fly) and sophomore Aly Bozzuto (100 breaststroke) began competition at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, Thursday at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Cannings placed 33rd in prelims for the 100 fly, while Bozzuto finished 34th in the 100 breaststroke.
Liberty's Performers
Bozzuto will compete in both the 50 freestyle and 200 breaststroke tomorrow, while Cannings will swim the 50 free, at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. The prelims session begins at 10 a.m. with the 100 backstroke and also featured the 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and three-meter diving, in that order.
Cannings placed 33rd in prelims for the 100 fly, while Bozzuto finished 34th in the 100 breaststroke.

- During this week's four-day meet, the top 16 from morning prelims each day qualify for evening finals.
- Virginia's Claire Curzan swam the top 100 fly time of the morning, 49.20. Annie Jia of California clocked a 50.77 to claim the last A Final spot. It took 51.33 to qualify for the B Final.
- Canning competed in the second out of six heats of the 100 fly, placing fourth in the session, and 33rd overall, in 51.96. A total of 44 swimmers competed in the 100 fly this morning.
- McKenzie Siroky of Tennessee swam the fastest time this morning in the 100 breaststroke, in 56.93. Maria Ramos Najji of Ohio State was the last A Finalist, qualifying in 57.95. Meanwhile, it took a 58.98 effort to qualify for the B Final.
- Bozzuto swam in the second out of six heats of the 100 breaststroke, finishing fourth in her heat in 1:00.04. The Liberty sophomore finished 34th out of 46 competitors. She topped American Conference swimmer Frida Loebersli of FIU, who tied for 41st.
- Cannings has the top three 100 fly times by a Lady Flame all-time in NCAA Championships, with her 51.45 as a freshman, 51.66 last year and 51.96 today.
- Bozzuto's 1:00.04 from this morning was the fastest 100 breaststroke clocked by a Liberty swimmer at the NCAA Championships, as Bozzuto swam 1:00.12 last year.
- This is the 10th time in 16 years of the program's history that at least one Lady Flame has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. The Lady Flames have had two All-America honorable mention finishers, in Brye Ravettine (13th in 50 free, 2012) and Jess Reinhardt (10th in 100 fly, 2014). All competitors at the cancelled 2020 NCAA Championships were named All-Americans, so Payton Keiner received All-American honors in 2020.
- Cannings joins Payton Keiner (2018, 2020, 2021) as the only Lady Flames to make three appearances at NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships to date.
