
Icard Makes History at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – Liberty junior Shannon Icard made history by competing on platform on day four of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, Saturday at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Icard became the first Liberty diver to compete at NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships in program history, contesting platform diving this afternoon. Junior Kamryn Cannings competed in the 100 freestyle to complete her time at nationals.

- Jr. Kamryn Cannings – 100 freestyle – 48.90 (t-47th place overall)
- Jr. Shannon Icard – Platform Diving (5) – 219.15 (34th place overall)
- During this week's four-day meet, the top 16 from morning prelims each day qualify for evening finals.
- Virginia took the top two spots in 100 freestyle qualifying, in Anna Moesch (45.81) and Sara Curtise (46.00). Cadence Vincent of Alabama (46.90) secured the last A Final spot, while it took 47.46 to make the B Final.
- Cannings competed in the second out of seven heats of the 100 freestyle. She swam 48.90, tying for sixth in the heat with Arizona's Riley Botton.
- Ellie Cole of Stanford scored 366.90 on platform, the top qualifying score. It took 294.75 to qualify for the A Final and 260.50 to make the B Final.
- Icard scored 219-15 points in prelims, good for 34th in a field of 43 divers.
- Icard earned her spot at nationals by placing fifth on platform at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships last week in Annapolis, Md.
- Cannings holds the top two 100 free times by a Lady Flame all-time at NCAA Championships, with her 48.77 last year and 48.90 this morning.
- This is the 10th time in 15 years of the program's history that at least one Lady Flame has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. The Lady Flames have had two All-America honorable mention finishers, in Brye Ravettine (13th in 50 free, 2012) and Jess Reinhardt (10th in 100 fly, 2014). All competitors at the cancelled 2020 NCAA Championships were named All-Americans, so Payton Keiner received All-American honors in 2020.
- Cannings joins Payton Keiner (2018, 2020, 2021) as the only Lady Flames to make three appearances at NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships to date.
