
Liberty Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a 3.78 team GPA this spring. Liberty was among teams on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team list for the spring 2026 semester. Additionally, four Lady Flames have been named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans.
In the pool, Liberty made a successful transition to the American Conference. The Lady Flames finished as runners-up during the 2026 American Conference Swimming & Diving Championship.
Juniors Kamryn Cannings and Shannon Icard both earned CSCA Individual Scholar All-American first-team honors, while junior Kayla Walsh and freshman Gwyneth Frick were named to the second team.
The Individual Scholar All-America award is given to college swimmers and divers who have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher and have qualified for and competed at the national championship. Second team recognition is given to college swimmers and divers with a 3.5 GPA or higher who attained an NCAA qualifying standard or Zone Diving score but were not invited to the national championship.
The CSCAA announced its Scholar All-America Team awards, which were received by 714 programs, spanning NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. In order to qualify for the award, a team must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the previous semester.
As a team, the Lady Flames earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.78 in the spring of 2026. That tied Liberty with Vanderbilt for the ninth best GPA among all NCAA Division I women's swimming & diving programs this spring. During the fall of 2018, Liberty's program-record 3.79 GPA led all collegiate teams, men's or women's.
Liberty has now earned CSCAA academic honors as a team a total of 28 semesters, dating back to the fall 2011 semester. Additionally, the Lady Flames have earned 63 CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American honors in program history.
Earlier this summer, Cannings, Icard, Natalie Colarossi and Sadie Stricklin were all named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
An elementary education major from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Cannings continued her record-setting career in 2025.26. She won both the 100 fly and 100 freestyle at the 2026 American Conference Swimming & Diving Championship, adding a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle. For her career, she has nine conference individual podium finishes, including seven individual event victories at conference meets. Cannings competed in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships for the third year in a row. She holds four current program records.
A native of Quitman, Ga., Icard is a sport management major. She broke through this year, becoming the first Liberty diver in program history to compete at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. Icard placed fifth overall on platform at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships to earn her spot at nationals with a score of 444.90. The Georgia native competed on all three boards at the NCAA Zone Championships this season, while she earned two A Finals appearances at the American Conference Championship. Icard holds the program record for platform, both five-dive (261.00) and 10-dive (444.90).
Hailing from Warrenton, Va., Frick is currently pursuing a degree in pre=physical therapy. She made an immediate impact as a freshman, being named the Most Outstanding Freshman Swimmer of the American Conference Championship. She earned two podium finishes at the conference meet this season, winning the 100 backstroke, while placing second in the 200 backstroke and fourth in the 200 IM. Frick won the 100 backstroke every time she competed in the event this season. Additionally, she set the program's 100 IM record during the fall.
Walsh, a business administration major from Greensboro, N.C., excelled during her first season as a Lady Flame after transferring from Auburn. She earned two A Finals appearances at the American Conference Championships, finishing fourth overall on platform and fifth on three-meter. Her 293.90 on three-meter at the conference meet earned Walsh a trip to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships for the third year in a row. Walsh placed 34th on three-meter at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. She currently ranks fifth in program history on platform and seventh on three-meter.
