GREENSBORO, N.C. - Liberty holds a second-place standing following day one of the 2026 American Conference Swimming & Diving Championship, Wednesday at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Defending American Conference champion Rice leads with 354.5 points, followed in second by 2025 ASUN champion Liberty with 323. East Carolina (218.5) has a slight advantage over James Madison (215) in the race for third.

- Fr. Gwyneth Frick – 200 IM (4th place in 2:00.05 – qualified in 2:01.22)
- Fr. Riley Leach – 200 IM (7th place in 2:01.25 - qualified in 2:01.62)

- So. Kamryn Cannings – 50 freestyle (3rd place in 22.42 - qualified in 22.28)
- Team Diving – 4th place with 254.95 (Shannon Icard, Mercy Goodnight, Chloe LaCount)
- Liberty posted eight top-eight finishes on Wednesday evening, including three podium finishes and one event victory. The Lady Flames set one new program record, earning one automatic qualification to NCAA Championships and posting one provisional NCAA qualifying time.
- Liberty outscored Rice by a combined 14 points in the 200 medley relay and team diving event, narrowing the gap.
- In the first event of the night, FIU won the 200 medley relay in a championship meet record 1:36.24. Liberty followed in second in a program-record 1:36.92.
- The Lady Flames earned two A Finalists in each of the three individual swimming events today. Emma Herrera placed sixth in the 500 free A Final in 4:49.34, becoming the third Liberty swimmer all-time to break 4:50 in the 500 free. Layne Jones placed eighth in 4:54.58.
- A pair of Liberty freshmen competed in the 200 IM A Final, with Gwyneth Frick (2:00.05) placing fourth and Riley Leach (2:01.25) finishing seventh.
- The 50 freestyle featured last year's ASUN champion (Liberty's Kamryn Cannings) and Sun Belt champion (James Madison's Jamie Cornwell). However, Liberty's Aly Bozzuto punched her ticket to the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships by winning in an NCAA-qualifying time of 22.27. Cornwell took second in 22.38, while Cannings claimed bronze in 22.42. Cannings swam an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 22.28 in prelims.
- The Lady Flames finished the session by placing fourth in the team diving event. Liberty's trio of Shannon Icard, Mercy Goodnight and Chloe LaCount scored a combined 254.95.
- Liberty, James Madison and Marshall are all in their first year as affiliate members in the American Conference for swimming & diving.
- The Lady Flames set a new program record in the 200 medley relay, swimming 1:36.92. They broke the previous program record of 1:37.80, set in 2014. That was the oldest record in Liberty's swimming & diving record books coming into this week.
- Frick's 24.93 leadoff in the 200 medley relay ranks third in program history in the 50 backstroke.
- Herrera moved up to second on the program's all-time top 10 performers list with her 4:49.34 in the 500 freestyle A Final. Jones' 4:52.63 in prelims ranks ninth in program history.
- Riley Leach moved into ninth place on Liberty's top performers list in the 200 IM, swimming 2:01.25 in the A Final.
- Freshman Dakota Howard swam 22.98 in the 50 free prelims, becoming the 13th Lady Flame all-time to break 23 second in the 50.
