
Lady Flames Maintain 2nd Place Standing Midway Through American Conference Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Liberty swimming & diving team maintains its second-place standing after two days of the 2026 American Conference Swimming & Diving Championship, Thursday at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Depending American Conference champion Rice came into the day with a 31.5-point lead and added 135.5 points to its cushion over 2025 ASUN Champion Liberty. The Owls lead with 769 points, followed in second by Liberty with 602. East Carolina moved into third place with 513.5 points, followed by FIU (499).

Day three of the 2026 American Conference Swimming & Diving Championship begins at 10:30 a.m. with exhibition heats of the 100 backstroke. Friday's program will also feature the 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, one-meter diving and 800 freestyle relay.

- Jr. Kamryn Cannings – 100 butterfly (1st place in 51.77 - qualified in 52.48)
- Fr. Emma Herrera – 200 freestyle (4th place in 1:48.52 - qualified in 1:49.35)
- Jr. Shannon Icard – One-meter diving (6) (6th place in 260.00 - qualified in 258.30)
- 400 medley relay – 1st place in 3:33.70 (Gwyneth Frick – 53.74; Aly Bozzuto – 59.08; Kamryn Cannings – 52.25; Dakota Howard – 48.63)
- On Thursday, Liberty recorded six top-eight finishes, including three podium finishes and two event victories. For the meet, Liberty has posted 14 top-eight finishes, six podiums, three and three event victories. The Lady Flames have set one program record, earning two automatic qualifications to the NCAA Championships and posting one provisional NCAA qualifying time.
- Any swimmer who wins an event this weekend and meets the NCAA qualifying standard will earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. So far this week, Aly Bozzuto (50 free) and Kamryn Cannings (100 fly) have both earned their spot at NCAA nationals.
- Kamryn Cannings punched her ticket to the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship for the third year in a row. She won the 100 fly A Final in an NCAA-qualifying 51.77.
- Liberty finished the evening with a commanding victory in the 400 medley relay, winning by over 3.5 seconds over second-place FIU (3:33.70 to 3:37.44).
- Freshman Riley Leach swam 4:15.46 in the 400 IM A Final, earning her first career conference podium finish with a second-place showing.
- Freshman Emma Herrera narrowly missed a medal in the 200 freestyle, finishing fourth in 1:48.52.
- Liberty came in fifth in the 200 freestyle relay to open the evening finals session, with the quartet of Dakota Howard, Aly Bozzuto, Sadie Huenefeld and Natali Colarossi finishing in 1:31.04.
- Shannon Icard earned a spot in the one-meter diving A Final, placing sixth overall with a score of 260.00 at night.
- Liberty, James Madison and Marshall are all in their first year as affiliate members in the American Conference for swimming & diving.
- Liberty's 3:33.70 400 medley relay ranks second in program history, trailing only the 3:33.34 which the Lady Flames last year to set the ASUN Conference and meet record.
- The Lady Flames' 200 freestyle relay of 1:31.04 ranks seventh on the program's all-time top 10 performers list in the event.
- Howard's 22.89 leadoff in the 200 freestyle relay ranks 11th in program history in the 50 freestyle.
- Riley Leach is now third on Liberty's all-time top performers list in the 400 IM with her 4:15.46 tonight.
- Cannings has now posted eight conference podium finishes, including six individual conference titles (3 100 fly, 1 200 fly, 1 50 free, 1 100 free).
- Emma Herrera became the eighth Lady Flame all-time to break 1:49 in the 200 freestyle, swimming 1:48.52 tonight.
