
Liberty Prepares for a Pair of Games, Hosts No. 17 Virginia on Sunday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – After a strong 1-0-1 week to the season, the Lady Flames soccer team looks ahead to more challenges, taking on Charlotte (2-0) on the road Thursday and hosting No. 17 Virginia (1-0) in their home opener on Sunday.
Thursday's contest is set for a 4 p.m. kickoff from the Charlotte Soccer Field. Liberty welcomes No. 17 Virginia to Osborne Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Both contests will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Liberty opened the season against programs that won their conference championships last season. The Lady Flames topped the reigning American Conference champions, East Carolina, 3-1 on the road Thursday. The team finished the week at 2024 Sun Belt champion James Madison, earning a 2-2 draw.
Following the performance, defender Lauren Littleton was selected as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Littleton helped hold ECU scoreless in her time on the field and helped set up the equalizing second-half goal at JMU, holding the Dukes scoreless for the final 60 minutes of the contest.

- Three of Liberty's five goals this season have come from midfielders. Freshman Lauren Flax and redshirt senior Bri Myers scored on Thursday at ECU, while junior Avenley Monteith opened the scoring at JMU.
- CUSA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Ivy Garner, leads the team with five points and two goals (one assist). She scored in the first minute of the game at ECU, earning the program record for the earliest goal to kick off a season.
- Forward Halle Engle earned an assist in each contest last week. Both of her assists contributed to the opening goal of each game.
- Goalkeeper Ainsley Leja started both games last week, totaling 161 minutes. The redshirt senior made her return after missing the 2024 season due to an injury. Leja held ECU scoreless in her 72 minutes of play on Thursday.
