No. 2 Liberty Advances to CUSA Final with 2-0 Win Over No. 3 Sam Houston
11/4/2025 8:31:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Lady Flames will take on the victor of No. 4 seed MTSU (11-5-3) and No. 8 seed Missouri State (6-8-4), which kicked off at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Liberty began the game with immediate pressure, forcing a penalty kick after a handball was called against Sam Houston in the sixth minute. Ivy Garner was given the chance and buried a shot low to the post, just beating the diving goalkeeper. The penalty kick was Liberty's first of the season and Garner's first of her career.

The Lady Flames' defense starred on Tuesday. The back line held the Bearkats to a single shot with none on goal. It's the third time this season that Liberty has allowed a single shot and the first time this year they did not allow a shot on goal. Liberty last shut out an opponent in shots on Sept. 20, 2023, in a 2-0 win at Marshall.
Ivy Garner scored her second of the game and her fourth of the championship in the 55th minute. The ball was squeezed out to the forward after Halle Engle was involved in an inadvertent collision with the Bearkats' goalkeeper. Garner sent the ball directly into a yawning net to tie the CUSA record for goals in the CUSA championship.
Liberty wins its eighth straight contest and improves to 7-3-2 at home this season. The Lady Flames improve to 4-0 all-time against Sam Houston with three triumphs at home.
