
No. 2 Liberty Opens CUSA Championship by Hosting No. 7 Louisiana Tech

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Serving as the host site for the 2025 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship, No. 2 seed Liberty (11-3-4, 6-0-2 CUSA) opens the tournament on Sunday at 11 a.m., welcoming No. 7 seed Louisiana Tech (4-12-2, 3-4-1 CUSA). All contests at the CUSA Championship will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Liberty secured a share of the CUSA Regular Season title, besting Sam Houston 2-0, in its final regular season contest last Sunday. The Lady Flames enter the event as the No. 2 seed. No. 1 seed Western Kentucky owned the tiebreaker by way of record among common conference opponents.

Three Lady Flames, Ivy Garner (Player/Offensive Player of the Year), Lauren Littleton (Defensive Player of the Year) and Peyton Huber (Goalkeeper of the Year) headlined seven featured among 2025 CUSA postseason honors. Briana Myers (first team), Halle Engle (second team), Avenley Monteith (second team) and Lauren Flax (All-Freshman) were also recognized.

- Liberty enters the CUSA Championship as the No. 2 seed for the third consecutive season. The Lady Flames secured the championship title in 2023 and were runners-up in 2024. Liberty joined Conference USA in 2023.
- The Lady Flames are 3-0 all-time against their quarterfinal opponent, Louisiana Tech (4-12-2, 3-4-1 CUSA). Liberty topped Louisiana Tech in its first-ever CUSA Championship game with a 4-0 triumph over the Bulldogs in 2023.
- If Liberty were to win on Sunday, they would take on the winner of No. 3 seed Sam Houston (8-5-2, 4-3-2 CUSA) and No. 6 seed Delaware (10-2-5, 3-2-3 CUSA) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Lady Flames played both programs in their most recent contests with identical 2-0 results.
- Liberty owns a 3-1 record in CUSA Championship games. This season, the postseason bracket expanded to eight teams for the first time following the additions of CUSA newcomers Delaware and Missouri State.
- The Lady Flames need three victories to claim the CUSA title, concluding in the CUSA Championship game on Friday at noon. A title would give Liberty its second title and NCAA Tournament appearance in three seasons.
- Liberty secured a 5-3-2 home record during the regular season. The Lady Flames hosted four ranked opponents in their non-conference schedule, including No. 17 Virginia, No. 24 Virginia Tech, No. 9 Penn State and No. 21 Kansas.
- Liberty received the United Soccer Coaches 2024-25 Team Pinnacle award, which is given to programs that excel on the field, in sportsmanship and academically. They are the only Division I program to receive the honor in each of the past three seasons.
- The Lady Flames are outscoring their opponents 34-16 (+18). They lead CUSA in overall goals scored and are second in goals against. In conference play, Liberty leads in goals scored (16), goals against (3) and goal differential (13).
- Forward Ivy Garner leads CUSA in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26). She is also tied for the league lead with four game-winning goals.
- Halle Engle ranks second on the team in goals and sixth in CUSA (tied) with five goals, tied for second with five assists, tied for fifth with 15 points and fourth with 47 shots.
- Liberty's defense allowed a league-leading three goals in CUSA play. The defense also allowed 5.86 shots per game to CUSA opponents, including 2.00 shots on goal per game.
- Defender Lauren Litteton leads all Liberty players with over 1,400 minutes played this season, despite missing one game (17 starts). The junior has 12 full 90-minute performances this season.
- With one more start, goalkeeper Peyton Huber would rank No. 8 in the country with a 0.47 goals-against average (GAA). In CUSA play, she led all goalkeepers with three goals allowed, four shutouts and a 0.40 GAA. She has played in 10 games this season, with all her eight starts in CUSA action.
