Field Hockey to Take on Providence, No. 17 UAlbany in Pair of Road Games

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No.-14 ranked Liberty field hockey squad will take on Providence (Friday) and No. 17 UAlbany (Sunday) in a pair of road games, this weekend.
On Friday, the Lady Flames (4-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) will face the Providence Friars (5-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) in BIG EAST action. Match time is 3 p.m. from Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. Liberty will then head to Albany, N.Y. to face the No. 17-ranked UAlbany Great Danes on Sunday afternoon. Game time is noon at Alumni Turf in Albany, N.Y.
Liberty is looking to snap a two-game losing skid. Last weekend, the Lady Flames fell to a pair of ranked teams in No. 19 Old Dominion (road, BIG EAST opener, 3-2 loss) and No. 2 North Carolina (home, 7-0 loss). Providence has won two straight matches, besting Quinnipiac 2-0 on the road in its BIG EAST opener and edging Holy Cross 4-3 (shootout), last Sunday at home. UAlbany has won six straight games after a defeat in its season opener. The Great Danes knocked off UC Davis 2-0 in their first America East Conference game this past Sunday.

- The Lady Flames are 10-0 all-time versus the Providence Friars, including a 9-0 mark since joining the BIG EAST prior to the 2016 season. Last year, Liberty scored four second half goals on the way to a 5-2 home victory against Providence. Lou Combrinck scored two goals in that game, while Ellie Livingston, Tuti Dell Anna and Martu Cian added one goal each.
- This will be the first-ever meeting between Liberty and UAlbany.
- Liberty is No. 23 in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI listing. UAlbany is in the No. 17 position, while Providence is in the No. 41 spot.
- The Lady Flames and Great Danes each have one top-20 win to their credit so far this season. Liberty topped No. 4 Duke 1-0 on Sept. 15. UAlbany knocked off No. 7 Harvard 3-2 in overtime on Sept. 13.
- UAlbany is the fifth top-20 opponent Liberty will face already in 2024. Liberty is 1-3 against ranked teams this season.
- No. 14 Liberty is one of three top-20 teams from the BIG EAST Conference. Connecticut (7-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) is ranked 11th, and Old Dominion (5-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) is currently listed at No. 18 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
- Last week, goalkeeper Michaela Skinner was named the NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Forward Lou Combrinck was tabbed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week as well on Sept. 17.
- This is the first time Liberty has lost back-to-back games since early on in the 2022 season (William & Mary and No. 1 Northwestern). The Lady Flames have not dropped three straight games since the 2019 season.
