LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty softball team has announced the addition of two incoming transfers who have signed commitments. The Lady Flames will add 2026 Big South All-Freshman Team member Malli Groves and two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year Dakota Redmon, who both transferred to Liberty from Radford.
Yesterday, Liberty announced that former Radford head coach Kevin Fagan has taken the position as associate head coach on Dot Richardson's staff.
These players will join a class of newcomers that includes previously-signed incoming freshmen Lydia Anderson, Parker Doerr, Audrey Graham, Alaina Griffin, Molly Hancock, Jacely Hogan, Maken Petrick and Chloe Vaughan.
Malli Groves (UTL, Fr., Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (Radford))
Malli Groves comes to Liberty after starting all 51 games for Radford as a freshman. She batted .284 with a team-leading nine doubles, two triples, five homers and 34 RBI during the 2026 season, earning Big South All-Freshman Team honors. Her five homers were tied with Dakota Redmon for the team lead. In Big South Conference play, she slashed .296/.356/.463 with 13 RBI. She posted a .946 fielding percentage at second base. Groves recorded Radford's first multiple-homer game in four years, with two homers and four RBI against Presbyterian College (March 28). She tied her career high with four RBI against American Conference champions UConn on Feb. 28, a game played at Liberty Softball Stadium.
"Malli is the ultimate utility student-athlete!" Richardson said. "She excels both in the classroom and on the field. She loves the Lord and He has blessed her with much talent. She will be able to help the team on both offense and defense while bringing the ability to play multiple different positions. We look forward to seeing how far she can go with the drive to excel she possesses. She is a competitor and works extremely hard to be the best she can be."
Dakota Redmon (P/UTL, So., Stokesdale, N.C./Rockingham County High School (Radford))
Two-time Big South Pitcher of the Year Dakota Redmon joins the Lady Flames' pitching staff after spending two seasons as Radford's ace. As a freshman in 2025, she was named the Big South Co-Freshman of the Year, in addition to receiving Big South All-Conference first team, D1Softball Freshman All-America, NFCA Top 25 Freshman of the Year finalist and NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region awards. Redmon was named the 39th best mid-major player by D1Softball in 2025. As a freshman, she went 16-13 overall with a 2.32 ERA, improving to a 1.44 ERA and .186 opponents batting average in conference games. During her sophomore year, she earned Big South Pitcher of the Year, Big South All-Conference first team, Big South All-Tournament Team and NFCA second team all-region. She also excelled at the plate in 2026, batted .322 with five homers and 21 RBI in 90 at bats.
"Dakota is an extremely talented two-way player who will make an immediate impact in the pitching circle," Richardson said. "She is also a gifted hitter and will work hard to help the team on both sides of the ball. Her passion for the game and love for the Lord is contagious. She is a fierce competitor who has the heart of a champion and gives her best in every opportunity."
