Liberty Softball to Open 2027 Season at NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty softball team has been invited to compete in the prestigious NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic, held in Clearwater, Fla., Feb. 12-14.
The tournament, held at Eddie C. Moore Complex, showcases some of the best teams in NCAA Division I softball. The Lady Flames will face five teams who competed in the 2026 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, including four teams (Mississippi State, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas Tech) who played in the 2026 Women's College World Series in addition to Regional participant Indiana.
General public tickets for the DI Leadoff Classic are on sale now.
The Lady Flames will be making their fourth appearance at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic, as Liberty also competed at this event in 2020, 2024 and 2026.
Liberty finished the 2026 season with a 29-28 record, including 18-9 in CUSA. Liberty entered the 2026 CUSA Softball Championship as the No. 3 seed and won its first three games to advance to the winner-take-all final for the third year in a row, where they fell to No. 1 seed Jax State, 7-4. Among season highlights were a 10-9 upset win over No. 13 Virginia Tech, giving the Lady Flames at least one win over a Top 25 team in each of the last nine years.
