Delaware Evens Series at 1-1 with 12-3 Win Over Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Delaware evened this weekend's three-game series at one game apiece with a 12-3, six-inning win over Liberty, Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
With the win, Delaware improves to 16-18, 5-6 in Conference USA play. The Lady Flames (15-17, 8-3) saw their seven-game conference winning streak come to a close. Liberty won game one of this series by a 7-4 score over the Blue Hens yesterday.

Turning Point
- Delaware homered twice during a three-run first inning, and scored three more runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
- Liberty responded with RBI from Alexia Carrasquillo and Savannah Jessee in the bottom of the fifth, narrowing the gap to 6-3. However, Delaware scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning and finished off the 12-3, six-inning victory.
- Delaware outhit Liberty 12-6 for the game, with the Lady Flames committing one error.
- Josie Crossman (8-8) earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits, walking one in 4 1/3 innings. Claire Woods entered the game with a 6-3 lead in the fifth, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings of hitless softball to earn the save.
- Gabby Mike (2-7) drew the loss, allowing three runs on three hits, walking one and striking out one in one inning as the starter before giving way to Danner Allen (4 1/3 innings) and Caitlyn Nesbitt (2/3 IP).
- Delaware's Allie Nankivell went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Gianna Costaro batted 3-for-4 with a double, homer and five RBI. Sydney Shaffer batted 1-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Bridget Chapman went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Kristen Luzon went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
- Ella Fox batted 2-for-3 with a stolen base and one run scored for Liberty. Maci Strickland and Dani Lee both doubles, while Alexia Carrasquillo went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
- Liberty leads Delaware 4-3 in the all-time series in softball. The Lady Flames had won each of the last two meetings since a 4-1 Delaware win on Feb. 29, 2008.
- Liberty had homered in each of its last 11 games prior to today. It was the team's longest streak of consecutive games with at least one home run since homering in 13 straight games, Feb. 21 through March 12, 2021.
- Ella Fox extended her hitting streak to nine games, the longest hitting streak by a Lady Flame so far this season.
- Making her first plate appearance since Feb. 28, Avery Noel batted 1-for-1 with one run scored.
