LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty backed a two-hit shutout by senior Elena Escobar with a 13-run outburst, defeating Kennesaw State 13-0 in five innings, Sunday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames (20-4) opened Conference USA play with a 3-0 sweep over KSU (8-17, 0-3). Liberty has pushed its winning streak to eight games, tying its longest winning streak of the season to date (also started 8-0).

Turning Point
- Liberty carried a 2-0 leading into the third inning, before exploding for a six-run third and five-run fourth.
- Liberty outhit KSU 10-2 for the game. The Owls committed two errors, compared to one for the Lady Flames.
- Elena Escobar (7-1) struck out seven and allowed two hits in the shutout effort.
- Emma Friedel (4-6) drew the loss, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two and fanning one in 1 1/3 innings before giving way to four different relievers.
- Alexia Carrasquillo went 2-for-3 with her first two career homers, four RBI and two runs scored. Rachel Roupe batted 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and one run. Brooke Roberts hit 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs. KK Madrey and Savannah Woodard both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
