HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Liberty erupted for a 10-run fifth inning on Tuesday, earning a 17-6 run-rule victory over Marshall at Dot Hicks Field.
The Lady Flames (21-4), ranked as highly as No. 24 this week, extended their winning streak to nine games. Meanwhile, Marshall (12-12) saw its six-game winning streak come to a close.

Liberty will play a three-game series at Western Kentucky, Friday through Sunday in Bowling Green, Ky. It will be a rematch of the 2024 CUSA Championship title game, which Liberty won on a walk-off double by Savannah Jessee in the ninth inning. Â

Turning Point
- Liberty scored in every inning and turned a 7-3 lead into a 17-3 cushion by scoring 10 runs in the top of the fifth. The fifth-inning barrage was punctuated by Alexia Carrasquillo's grand slam. Â Â
- Liberty outhit Marshall 13-4, with the Lady Flames committing one error. Â Â
- Elena Escobar (8-1) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits, walking two and striking out seven in 3 1/3 innings. Paige Bachman allowed three unearned runs on one hit, walking one and striking out four in 1 2/3 innings.
- Jules King (4-4) drew the loss, yielding four runs on six hits, with one strikeout in two innings.
- Alexia Carrasquillo batted 3-for-3 with a grand slam, four RBI and two runs. Rachel Roupe went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored. Brynn McManus batted 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs.
- Marshall's runs came via three-run homers from Bub Feringa and Kasia Parks.
- Marshall leads Liberty 12-8 in the all-time series. However, the Lady Flames have won each of the last five meetings.
- Liberty's nine-game winning streak is its longest since winning 15 in a row, Feb. 24 through March 16, 2023.
- Today was Liberty's fifth run-rule win of the season, and second in a row.
- Liberty's 17 runs today were its most since a 19-3 win over Longwood, March 6, 2021.
- Liberty's four home runs today are its most since hitting four homers against Morgan State, Feb. 25, 2024.
- Carrasquillo is the first Liberty freshman with a grand slam since Rachel Roupe, March 26, 2022 against North Alabama.
- Roupe is now in sole possession of third place in program history with 47 career homers, passing Kelly Strickland (2009-12) today.
- Roupe registered her ninth career multiple-homer game. She trails only Jessica Moore (2005-07) in program history, as Moore had 11 career multiple-home run contests.
- Roupe extended her hitting streak to nine games, with two hits in each of the last five contests. She is the first Liberty player since Amber Bishop-Riley (6, from March 23-31, 2018) with five or more consecutive multiple-hit games.
- KK Madrey is now tied with Libi Cook (1996-99) for fourth all-time at Liberty with 66 stolen bases as a Lady Flame.
