
Lady Flames Come from Behind to Unseat Royals 18-17

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Despite trailing by three or more goals multiple times throughout Saturday's contest, the Lady Flames (8-3, 3-0 ASUN) battled back to top to best Queens (3-8, 0-1 ASUN) 18-17 on the road. Mackenzie Lehman (3g, 2a) provided the game-winning goal with 5:16 left in the game with the defense holding the lead for the rest of the contest.
Midfielder Ava Menna recorded a career-high and a program-record 19 draw controls on Saturday. 19 draws currently stands as the sixth most in a single game in any Division I game this season. The sophomore is averaging 7.82 draw controls per game this season with 86 total.
Liberty began the game with back-to-back goals before Queens began to build a commanding lead with four consecutive scores. For every score Liberty netted, the Royals responded right back. With the score 12-6 midway through the second quarter, the Lady Flames registered three straight goals but Queens responded with their own tally to lead 13-9 at the half.
The Lady Flames came out on fire in the third quarter, tying the game at 13-13 with four consecutive goals in less than four minutes of play. Queens came right back with three straight of their own to push the deficit to 16-13. The Lady Flames took control the rest of the way, outscoring Queens 5-1 to secure the 18-17 triumph.
Taiva Reinertson led the Liberty with five goals while three other Lady Flames, Lehman, Katie Colavito (3g, 1a) and Olivia Young (3g, 1a), recorded a hat trick.
Rachel Hines and the Liberty defense responded after a testing first half allowing 13 scores. The Lady Flames allowed just four goals the rest of the way, highlighted by four huge saves from Hines in the fourth quarter.
Liberty improves to 3-0 in Atlantic Sun play this season. The Lady Flames managed a 3-3 record in ASUN play last season.
