
No. 13 Duke Snaps No. 21 Liberty’s Win Streak With Doubleheader Sweep

Duke won game one 7-3 before holding on for a 3-2 victory in the second game.
The Blue Devils improves to 21-9 on the season with the doubleheader sweep, while the Lady Flames (23-6) sustained defeat for the first time since Feb. 26 against No. 15 Virginia Tech.

Turning Point
- Duke led Liberty 3-2 with two outs in the top of the sixth when the Lady Flames loaded the bases. Cassidy Curd came on to get a first-pitch groundout.
- The Blue Devils struck for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, building a 7-2 lead. Curd worked around a leadoff homer by Savannah Woodard, earning the save.
- Duke outhit Liberty 10-8, with the Lady Flames committing a season-high four errors. The Blue Devils left 11 runners on base, compared to eighth stranded by the Lady Flames.
- Dani Drogemuller (8-3) earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits, walking four and striking out five in 5 2/3 innings. Curd earned her first save of the season with 1 1/3 innings of relief.
- Elena Escobar (9-2) sustained the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, walking two and fanning three in 3 1/3 innings before yielding to Paige Bachman (two IP) and Tyler Oubre (2/3 IP).
- Duke's KK Mathis went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Aminah Vega and Jada Baker both homered. Thessa Malau'ulu went 2-for-4.
- For Liberty, Brynn McManus, Paige Doerr and Rachel Craine all had two hits, with Doerr doubling and driving in two and Savannah Woodard homering.
- Duke has snapped each of Liberty's last two double-digit winning streaks, also ending a 15-game winning streak for Liberty in 2023.
- Roupe saw her 11-game hitting streak end in today's first game.

- Duke got the game-winning run in the fifth inning, on an RBI single from KK Mathis.
- Blue Devils starting pitcher Sophie Garner-MacKinnon and the Duke defense made that run hold up, shutting out the Lady Flames in the final three innings to hang on for the one-run win.
- For the game, both teams recorded five hits and one error.
- Garner-MacKinnon (5-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and fanning three.
- Kaylan Yoder (4-2) drew the loss, yielding three runs on five hits, issuing six walks and striking out four.
- Five different Blue Devils recorded one hit apiece.
- For Liberty, Rachel Roupe hit her 10th homer of the season and Savannah Woodard hit her sixth homer. Brooke Roberts went 2-for-3.
- Duke leads Liberty in the all-time series, 7-2, with the Blue Devils winning each of the last six meetings.
- The Blue Devils were ranked as highly as 13th today, in the D1Softball Top 25. Meanwhile, Liberty was ranked No. 21 in both the Softball America and D1Softball Top 25 Polls.
- Roupe hit her 50th career home run tonight. It was also her 100th career extra-base hit. She became the third Lady Flame all-time with 50 or more career homers (also Amber Bishop-Riley and Jessica Moore) and the fourth Lady Flame with 100 or more extra-base hits (also Bishop-Riley, Moore and Autumn Bishop).
- Woodard has homered in each of Liberty's last three games.
The Lady Flames head to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on North Carolina tomorrow at 7 p.m. Liberty will then play a three-game set at Jacksonville State, Friday through Sunday
