LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Liberty Flames stormed back from seven runs down to top the Xavier Musketeers 10-7, Friday afternoon at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
After the Musketeers built a 7-0 through the first four innings, the Flames chipped away at the visitors' advantage, scoring three runs in the fifth, three more runs in the sixth, and finally taking the lead with four runs in the eighth for the comeback victory.
Designated hitter Landon Scilley went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. The freshman gave the Liberty lead with a two-run double down the right-field line.
Flames shortstop Tanner Marsh added three hits and an RBI and scored twice.
Right-hander Joseph Webb allowed the Flames to mount their comeback with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
With the win in the first game of the three-game series between the two teams, Liberty remains unbeaten on the season with a 5-0 record. Xavier drops to 2-3.
