
No. 2 Liberty to Face No. 8 Missouri State in CUSA Title Game

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 2 seed Liberty Lady Flames (13-3-4) will take on No. 8 seed Missouri State (7-8-4) in the 2025 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship title game on Friday at noon. As the tournament host, the game will be played at Liberty's Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Liberty topped No. 7 seed Louisiana Tech on Sunday and bested No. 3 seed Sam Houston by identical 2-0 scores. No. 8 seed Missouri State ousted No. 1 seed Western Kentucky 2-0 and beat No. 4 seed Middle Tennessee 2-1 to advance to Friday's final.
The two teams met in the first CUSA regular season games of 2025 for both teams, playing to a scoreless draw on Sept. 19. As CUSA newcomers, it was the Bears' first-ever CUSA contest. Missouri State attempts to accomplish the same task Liberty pulled off in 2023 by winning the CUSA title in its inaugural season in the league.
Liberty will be competing in its fourth consecutive title game. The Lady Flames finished as runners-up in the 2022 ASUN Championship, secured the CUSA title in 2023 and were runners-up in 2024.
CUSA Player of the Year, Ivy Garner, has starred in the tournament. The forward has scored a pair of goals in each contest and has tied the record for goals in a single CUSA Championship (Jenny Rynders – UAB, 2004). Garner has also secured the second most goals (14) and points (34) in a single season in Liberty program history (Nancy Davis – 17g, 43p – 1999).

- Ivy Garner is the only player with at least three goals so far in the tournament. Missouri State's Ellie Neath has scored twice in the tournament, one in each contest.
- Garner's eight points in the tournament ties former Lady Flame Rachel DeRuby (2023), along with Rynders and Anne Candee (Rice, 2005) for the most in a single CUSA Championship.
- Halle Engle's 10 shots against Louisiana Tech set a CUSA record for shots in a single CUSA Championship game. The previous record was eight set by five different players.
- Liberty has allowed five total shots in two games, with just three on goal.
- The Lady Flames are now 5-1 all-time in CUSA Championship appearances after joining the conference in 2023.

- Liberty has won eight straight contests and is unbeaten (8-0-2) in its last 10 games.
- The Lady Flames are 7-3-2 at home this season, including its two CUSA Championship games. Liberty hosted four ranked opponents in their non-conference schedule, including No. 17 Virginia, No. 24 Virginia Tech, No. 9 Penn State and No. 21 Kansas.
- Liberty received the United Soccer Coaches 2024-25 Team Pinnacle award, which is given to programs that excel on the field, in sportsmanship and academically. They are the only Division I program to receive the honor in each of the past three seasons.
- The Lady Flames rank No. 16 in the country with 8.00 shots on goal per game. Garner leads the team with 2.15 shots on goal per game (43 total), followed by Halle Engle with 1.55 per game.
- Engle (6) and Garner (14) account for half of Liberty's goals this season. They have accounted for .625 percent of Liberty's goals in the tournament and account for .733 percent of Liberty's points in the CUSA Championship.
- Liberty's defense allowed a league-leading three goals in CUSA play. The defense also allowed 5.86 shots per game to CUSA opponents, including 2.00 shots on goal per game.
- Ivy Garner now ranks second in program history in all scoring categories, including goals (32), assists (23) and points (87).
- Garner also now has the second most goals in a single season with 14 (Nancy Davis – 17, 1999) and points with 34 (Davis – 43, 1999).
- With a pair of game-winning goals, including four in the past five games, Garner now ranks No. 3 in the country with six game-winning goals. She is one of 11 players in the nation with six game-winning goals. Only two players (Brigid Duffy – Army and Faith Webber – Utah Valley) have seven.
- Garner also ranks No. 7 in the country in shot accuracy with a .672 mark with 43 shots on goal and 66 total shots.
- CUSA Defensive Player of the Year, Lauren Litteton, leads all Liberty players with over 1,600 minutes played this season, despite missing one game (19 starts). The junior has 13 full 90-minute performances this season.
- CUSA Goalkeeper of the Year, Peyton Huber (8-1-2), now ranks No. 7 in the country with a 0.48 goals-against average this season. She sports a 0.48 goals-against average and a .783 save percentage on 60 shots faced this season.
