
Liberty Earns TYR ’85 Invite 2nd-Place Finish

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty finished in second place at the seventh-annual TYR '85 Invite, which wrapped up on Sunday evening at Liberty Natatorium.
Ohio won its first TYR '85 Invite, scoring 2,768 points. Last year's champion, Liberty, placed second with 2,410 points. Campbell (1,427.5), UNC Pembroke (1,126), Saint Francis (Pa.) (967.5) and California (Pa.) (590) rounded out team standings, in that order. Georgia Southern and UNC Asheville have divers only competing at Liberty this weekend.

The Lady Flames' next regular-season meet will be Jan. 16-17, as Liberty will compete at UNC Asheville.

- 400 freestyle Relay – 2nd place in 3:18.61 (Aly Bozzuto – 50.26; Natalie Colarossi – 50.10; Dakota Howard – 49.57; Kamryn Cannings – 48.68)
- Ohio won four events this evening, while Liberty claimed the 1,650 freestyle (Eden Troxell), platform diving (Shannon Icard) and 200 backstroke (Gwyneth Frick).
- For the meet, Liberty saw one program record broken, while four NCAA Zone Diving qualifications were made and three NCAA swimming qualifying standards were met.
- Aly Bozzuto finished second in a close 200 breaststroke A Final race to Ohio's Casadie DiBetta (2:11.03). Bozzuto's NCAA standard time of 2:11.21 broke her own program record of 2:11.28.
- Eden Troxell won the 1,650 freestyle in 16:53.33, more than 10 seconds clear of second place.
- Gwyneth Frick claimed victory in the 200 backstroke in 1:56.10, with teammate Malia Francis finishing second in 1:57.06.
- Kamryn Cannings placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.77, trailing only Ohio's Zita Szoke. Dakota Howard (50.49) and Natalie Colarossi (50.71) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Ohio's Jana Macik won the 200 fly in 1:59.86, with Liberty taking second (Riley Leach – 2:00.31), third (Emily Harstad – 2:02.29) and fourth (Emma Herrera – 2:02.66).
- Liberty's Aly Bozzuto claimed the 100 breaststroke in NCAA-standard 1:00.26, narrowly beating Ohio's Casadie DiBetta (1:00.45). Karis Francis placed seventh in 1:04.86.
- Ohio held off a late-charging Liberty in the meet-ending 400 free relay, with the Bobcats winning in 3:18.38 and the Lady Flames taking second in 3:18.61.
- Gwyneth Frick is now fourth all-time at Liberty in the 200 backstroke (1:56.10) following tonight's A Final.
- Savannah Watts' 220.50 from today's A Final ranks fifth on Liberty's all-time top 10 performers list for platform diving, while Mercy Goodnight is ranked 10th with her 179.85 from prelims.
- Leach's 2:00.31 in the 200 fly A Final is ranked eighth in program history, while Emma Herrera's 2:02.66 is 10th.
- Liberty's 3:18.61 from tonight's 400 free relay ranks fourth on Liberty's all-time top 10 performers list in that event.
