
Lady Flames Remain in 2nd Place Through 2 Days at TYR ’85 Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty remains in second place following the second day of the seventh-annual TYR '85 Invite, Saturday at Liberty Arena.
Ohio leads team standings with 1,927 points, followed by Liberty's 1,600. Campbell (961) is in third, with UNC Pembroke (819) in fourth. Saint Francis (Pa.) (635) and California (Pa.) (414) are in fifth and sixth, respectively. Georgia Southern and UNC Asheville have divers only competing at Liberty this weekend.

Tomorrow's morning prelims start at 10 a.m. with the 200 backstroke, followed by the 100 free, 200 breaststroke and 200 fly. Platform diving will also take place. The evening session begins at 5 p.m. with the 1650 freestyle and end with the 400 freestyle relay.

- Liberty won six events tonight, the 200 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, 100 fly (Kamryn Cannings), 400 IM (Riley Leach), 100 breaststroke (Aly Bozzuto) and 100 backstroke (Gwyneth Frick). Ohio won three-meter diving and the 200 freestyle.
- The Lady Flames edged Ohio in the 200 medley relay to open the evening, with Liberty winning by .47 seconds (1:38.36 to 1:38.83).
- Liberty's Kamryn Cannings won the 100 fly in NCAA standard time 52.44, nearly two seconds clear of second place. Teammates Carly Larson (55.45) and Emily Harstad (56.77) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Riley Leach of Liberty won the 400 IM in 4:21.80, beating second-place Morgan Brown of Ohio by 2.25 seconds.
- Ohio's Zita Szoke claimed the 200 free in 1:45.83, with Liberty getting second (Natalie Colarossi – 1:49.85), fourth (Sadie Huenefeld – 1:51.67) and sixth (Emma Herrera – 1:52.02).
- Liberty's Aly Bozzuto claimed the 100 breaststroke in NCAA-standard 1:00.26, narrowly beating Ohio's Casadie DiBetta (1:00.45). Karis Francis placed seventh in 1:04.86.
- Liberty took the top two spots in the 100 backstroke, with Gwyneth Frick winning in 52.97 and Dakota Howard (54.20) taking second. Malia Francis (55.24) finished fifth.
- The Lady Flames finished third (Shannon Icard – 286.30), fourth (Mercy Goodnight – 267.40), sixth (Chloe LaCount – 257.85) and eighth (Savannah Watts – 237.80) in three-meter diving. Icard earned an NCAA Zone Championships qualifying score of 286.30 in the final, while Mercy Goodnight's 294.40 from prelims also was good for a spot at Zones.
- Liberty won the 800 free relay in 7:20.66, nearly 10 seconds ahead of second-place Ohio.
- The Liberty 200 medley relay swam 1:38.36, placing them fourth on Liberty's all-time list.
- Gwyneth Frick is now fourth all-time at Liberty in the 100 backstroke (52.97) and fifth in the 50 backstroke (25.16) with her results from today.
- Howard's 54.20 in the 100 backstroke A Final tonight in ranked seventh in program history.
- Goodnight's 294.40 from prelims this morning is sixth all-time at Liberty for three-meter diving.
- Leach stands in eighth place at Liberty with her 4:21.80 in the 400 IM in tonight's A Final.
- Liberty's 7:20.66 from tonight's 800 free relay ranks 10th on Liberty's all-time top 10 performers list in that event.
