
Liberty in 2nd After Day 1 at TYR '85 Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty swimming & diving team sits in second place after the first day of competition at the seventh-annual TYR '85 Invite, Friday at Liberty Natatorium.
Ohio leads the team standings with 897 points, followed by Liberty's 754. Campbell (390) is in third, with UNC Pembroke (350) in fourth. Saint Francis (Pa.) (224) and California (Pa.) are in fifth and sixth, respectively. Georgia Southern and UNC Asheville have divers only competing at Liberty this weekend.

Tomorrow's morning prelims start at 10 a.m. with the 100 fly. The morning session will also have prelims of the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and three-meter diving. The 6 p.m. evening finals will begin with the 200 medley relay and end with the 800 freestyle relay.

- 400 Medley Relay – 1st in 3:35.65 (Gwyneth Frick – 54.04; Aly Bozzuto – 1:00.34; Kamryn Cannings – 52.15; Natalie Colarossi – 49.12)
- Liberty won three events tonight, the 500 freestyle (Emma Herrera), 200 IM (Gwyneth Frick) and the 400 medley relay. Ohio claimed victory in the 200 free relay and the 50 free.
- The Lady Flames went 1-2 in the 500 free, with Emma Herrera winning in 4:54.38 and Eden Troxell following in 4:57.03.
- Gwyneth Frick of Liberty won the 200 IM in 1:59.77, over three seconds over the second-place finisher. Malia Francis (2:04.17) took fourth and Sadie Stricklin (2:05.26), sixth.
- For the second year in a row at this meet, Liberty's Aly Bozzuto was edged out for the win by in the 50 free Ohio's Zita Szoke, this time 22.34 to 22.44, with Kamryn Cannings (22.64) finishing third.
- Liberty finished 4-5-6 in one-meter diving, led by Shannon Icard's 261.35. Mercy Goodnight (258.00) placed fifth and Chloe LaCount (255.50), sixth. Icard qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships with her 266.90 from prelims.
- The Lady Flames won the 400 medley relay by just 0,15, finishing first in 3:35.65 ahead of Ohio's second-place 3:35.80.
- Gwyneth Frick won the 200 IM in 1:59.77 tonight, becoming the fourth Lady Flame all-time to break two minutes in the 200 individual medley. She is ranked fourth all-time at Liberty in the event.
- Liberty's 3:35.65 from tonight ranks second in program history in the 400 medley relay.
