Turning Point
Liberty scored three goals in the game's first 20 minutes to take control. The Lady Flames' first goal came from Zoé Gaillard in the ninth minute. Fellow freshman Caroline Richard drove the baseline and found Gaillard, who one-timed a shot into the left side of the cage for the opening tally.
Liberty tacked on another goal early in the second quarter at the 18:07 mark following a nice string of passing from Maite Altamirano and Josefina Tomasi. Altamirano found Tomasi up the right side in space, and Tomasi sent a crossing pass to Gaillard for her second tally of the day. In the 20th minute, the Lady Flames struck again, this time scoring on a penalty corner drag flick from Dara Semmartin, assisted by Lou Combrinck and Morena Giacosa.
App State scored just before halftime, but Gaillard put the game further out of reach with goals in the 39th, 41st and 51st minutes. Gaillard's record-setting goal came on a redirect following a ball sent by Luna Prieri in front of the cage. Liberty's final goal came from Combrinck on a penalty corner at the 55:25 mark, assisted by Semmartin.
