
Reid and Simmons Pace Liberty at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – For the second tournament in a row, Liberty had a pair of golfers finish inside the top 20 with Brett Reid and Isaac Simmons leading the Flames at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial.
The pair of Liberty golfers wrapped up play at the Virginia-hosted tournament tied for 19th with a 1-over par 214 following three times around Birdwood Golf Course (par 71, 7,116 yards) in Charlottesville.
Simmons (70-73-71) posted his third top-25 finish of the season and first during the spring schedule. He tied for the team lead in par-5 scoring (4.67 scoring average) during the 54-hole event and had one of Liberty's three eagles on the par-5 holes.
Reid (69-74-71) opened the tournament with this third round in the 60s this season. During the event, he led the Flames in par-4 scoring (3.96 scoring average) and posted a team-high 34 pars.
Josh Ryan followed two shots behind, finishing with a 3-over par 216 (74-71-71) to share 27th place. This marked the first time during the 2023-24 season Ryan has not been Liberty's top finisher at a tournament.
Overall, the Flames finished in 10th place out of 13 teams with a 17-over par 869 (288-296-285). It marked Liberty's sixth top-10 finish in nine tournaments this season.
No. 10 Tennessee (276-269-280-825) claimed the team title, winning the tournament by 12 strokes over No. 6 Florida State (280-282-275-837).
Tennessee and Florida State were the only two teams in the 13-team finish with an under-par score. Overall, the home course of the Cavaliers played at nearly two strokes over par during the two-day tournament (72.76 scoring average).
