
Flames Wrap Up Regular Season at Mossy Oak Collegiate

Liberty's final prep before competing for its first Conference USA title will be at the 2024 Mossy Oak Collegiate, starting on Monday.
The two-day, 54-hole event is hosted by Mississippi State at the Mossy Oak Golf Course (par 72, 7,212 yards) in West Point, Miss.
The tournament will serve as Liberty's final event before contending for its eighth conference title in program history and its first in Conference USA.
The Conference USA Men's Golf Championship will be hosted at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark., April 22-25.
This will be Liberty's second consecutive appearance at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, following a fifth-place finish for the Flames at the 2023 event.
This year's 14-team field includes three top-50 ranked teams, including No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 Ole Miss and No. 26 and tournament host Mississippi State.
The Flames will also see three of their fellow Conference USA foes a week before the conference championship event – Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State.
Play gets underway on Monday morning at 8 a.m. CST with a shotgun start, kicking off 36 holes of continuous play. The final round will get underway on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. CST with fixed tee times going off No. 1 and No. 10 tees.

Tournament Reflections – Previous Showing at the Mossy Oak Collegiate:
- A near-record second round allowed Liberty to secure a top-five finish in a packed nationally-ranked field at the 2023 Mossy Oak Collegiate (April 3-4)
- Liberty finished the event in fifth place with a final score of 26-under par 838 (282-270-286) following three rounds at the Mossy Oak Golf Course (par 72, 7,212 yards).
- The Flames' second-round 18-under par 270 was the third-best 18-hole total in program history. Additionally, Liberty's 838 final score was the eighth-best 54-hole total in program history.
- All five of Liberty's golfers finished the tournament in red figures. Connor Polender led the group, as he finished tied for 21st place with a 6-under par 210 (71-68-71).
- Isaac Simmons (71-69-71), Jonathan Yaun (69-70-72) and Josh Ryan (71-66-74) shared 27th place with a 5-under par 211.
- Austin Barbin rounded out Liberty's golfers at the event, finishing tied for 38th place with a 3-under par 213 (74-67-72).
From the 18th Green – Recapping Liberty's Last Time Out:
- For the second tournament in a row, Liberty had a pair of golfers finish inside the top 20 with Brett Reid and Isaac Simmons leading the Flames at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, last Monday and Tuesday.
- The pair of Liberty golfers wrapped up play at the Virginia-hosted tournament tied for 19th with a 1-over par 214 following three times around Birdwood Golf Course (par 71, 7,116 yards) in Charlottesville.
- Simmons (70-73-71) posted his third top-25 finish of the season and first during the spring schedule. He tied for the team lead in par-5 scoring (4.67 scoring average) during the 54-hole event and had one of Liberty's three eagles on the par-5 holes.
- Reid (69-74-71) opened the tournament with this third round in the 60s this season. During the event, he led the Flames in par-4 scoring (3.96 scoring average) and posted a team-high 34 pars.
- Josh Ryan followed two shots behind, finishing with a 3-over par 216 (74-71-71) to share 27th place. This marked the first time during the 2023-24 season Ryan has not been Liberty's top finisher at a tournament.
- Overall, the Flames finished in 10th place out of 13 teams with a 17-over par 869 (288-296-285). It marked Liberty's sixth top-10 finish in nine tournaments this season.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
- The Flames enter their sixth tournament of the spring ranked No. 94 in the latest Scoreboard national rankings.
- Liberty finished the fall with a team stroke average of 285.08.
- Josh Ryan led Liberty at each of the Flames first eight events of the 2023-24 season.
- Isaac Simmons (T19) and Brett Reid (T19) edged out Josh Ryan (T27) at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial last week, marking the first time Ryan has not led Liberty this season.
- Ryan paces the Flames on the year in scoring average (70.74), rounds at par or better (18-of-27), rounds in the 60s (8) and birdies (102).
- Seniors Isaac Simmons (5) and Austin Barbin (4) lead the Flames in eagles this year.
- The Flames enter the spring season looking to capture their eighth conference title since 2011 and their first as a member of Conference USA.
- Liberty closed out its time in the ASUN Conference by winning the title in record fashion when the Flames posted a 53-under par 811 (275-261-275) in the championship event.
- Liberty captured the conference title five times as a member of the Big South Conference (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018) and twice as a member of the ASUN Conference (2021 and 2023).
- The Flames have advanced to the NCAA Regionals 11 of the last 12 regional events and to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship four times in program history (2012, 2019, 2021 and 2022).
