
Ryan Leads Flames at General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Josh Ryan opened play on Wednesday with five birdies in his first nine holes allowing the sophomore to pace Liberty at the General Hackler Championship.
Ryan was Liberty's top finish for the eighth-straight event during the 2023-24 season, placing tied for 12th place with an even par 216 (73-72-71).
The sophomore shaved one shot off his score each trip around The Dunes Golf & Beach Club (par 72, 7,233 yards). He carded six of his 11 birdies for this event on Wednesday on his way to his sixth top-20 finish of the year.
Overall, Liberty finished the Coastal Carolina-hosted tournament in 11th place with a 13-over par 877 (290-294-293).
Following behind Ryan was Ike Joy, who finished the tournament tied for 21st place with a 3-over par 219 (72-73-74). Joy's top finish of 2023-24 was aided by a team-high 33 pars.
No. 48 Louisville won the event, saving its best round of golf for Wednesday. The Cardinals closed the tournament with a 5-under par 283 to win by five shots with a winning score of 5-under par 859 (286-290-283).
Host Coastal Carolina took second place with a score of even par 864 (294-280-290). The Chanticleers edged Furman by one shot, who carded a 1-over par 865 (292-288-285).
No. 15 ETSU, the top ranked team in the field, finished in fourth place with a 3-over par 867 (287-290-290).
Louisville's Max Kennedy claimed individual medalist honors with a winning score of 8-under par 208 (68-71-69), aided by a chip-in eagle on No. 4 (par 5, 529 yards) on Wednesday.
Kennedy led a group of 11 players to finish the event in red figures, including Liberty's Josh Ryan.
