
Flames Have 2 Golfers in Top 20 at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Playing in their closest event to campus this season, Liberty has a pair of golfers currently inside the top 20 at the third annual Lewis Chitengwa Memorial.
Liberty's Brett Reid (69-74) and Isaac Simmons (70-73) paced Liberty during its first two trips around the Birdwood Golf Course (par 71, 7,116 yards) in Charlottesville on Monday.
Liberty's top two golfers are currently tied for 18th place with an overall 1-over par 143. As a team, the Flames will enter the final round in 12th place with an overall team score of 16-over par 584 (288-296).
The Flames led the 13-team field on Monday with three eagles. Reid and Simmons both eagled the par-5, No. 2 hole (574 yards) during the morning flight, while Josh Ryan posted an eagle on the par-5, No. 15 hole (572 yards).
Simmons did most of his scoring on the par-5 holes, playing them at a scoring average of 4.50 (4-under par). Reid was Liberty's most consistent golfer among its starting five, finishing the day with 22 pars during 36 holes of play.
Overall, only two teams were able to tame the home course of the No. 12 ranked Virginia Cavaliers, which played at nearly two shots over par on Monday (72.90 scoring average).
No. 10 Tennessee with a 17-shot lead after carding an aggregate score of 23-under par 545 (276-269). No. 6 Florida State, the top-ranked team in the field, is in a distant second with a 6-under par 562 (280-282).
No. 11 Arkansas (284-285) and No. 31 North Florida (279-290) are in third place with a 1-over par 569.
The Flames will return to the Birdwood Golf Course on Tuesday for the final round of the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial. Play gets underway for the Flames at 8:44 a.m. off the No. 10 tee.
