
Flames Tee It Up This Weekend at Gator Invitational

The Flames continue the spring portion of their schedule with a return visit to the "Sunshine State" for this weekend's Gator Invitational.

The two-day, 54-hole event will once again be hosted by Florida at its on-campus home course, the Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70, 6,701 yards) in Gainesville, Fla.

The course has been Florida's home golf course since the 1960s and has hosted the Gator Invitational since 1978.

This year's event was originally scheduled for 36 holes of play on Saturday and a final round on Sunday. However, with weather forecasts in the Gainesville area for the later part of the weekend not looking favorable, the schedule was shifted up one day.

Play will now get started on Friday morning with a modified shotgun start, beginning at 7:50 a.m. Liberty's golfer will be sent off the No. 10 tee and will be paired with golfers from West Virginia and Florida's second team.

- The Flames are no strangers to Florida's on-campus golf course, having participated in this event for the last 12 seasons.
- Liberty is coming off its second-best showing in its history at this event, finishing the 2023 Gator Invitational in fourth place with a 5-over par 845 (271-283-291).
- Florida ran away with the team title last year, posting a winning score of 14-under par 826 (271-276-279) to win by 14 strokes.
- Liberty's top golfer in the 2023 tournament was Austin Barbin, who finished tied for 11th place with a 2-over par 212 (66-71-75).
- Liberty's best showing at this event took place in 2019 where the Flames finished in third place with a 2-under par 842 (285-277-280).
- The Flames struggled during their first event of the spring season, opening the second half of their schedule with an 11th-place showing at the Sea Best Invitational.
- Liberty carded a 39-over par 879 (293-294-292) following three trips around the TPC Sawgrass โ Dye's Valley Course (par 70. 6,790) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
- Liberty's top performer at the Jacksonville-hosted tournament was Josh Ryan, who finished tied for 21st place with a 6-over par 216 (72-73-71).
- All 15 teams in the tournament field finished with an over-par score.
- Florida won the tournament with a 2-over par 842 (286-276-280), finishing three shots ahead of North Florida's 5-over par 845 (288-281-276).
- The Flames enter their second tournament of the spring ranked No. 76 in the latest Clippd national rankings.
- Liberty had two players finish the fall season with a sub-71.00 stroke average โ Josh Ryan (70.0) and Isaac Simmons (70.78).
- Ryan also paced Liberty during the fall, playing 10-of-12 rounds at par or better, posting four rounds in the 60s, two top-10 finishes and 51 birdies.
- Liberty carded six eagles during the fall season with five of the six coming from its pair of graduate students โ Austin Barbin (3) and Isaac Simmons (2).
- Liberty finished the fall with a team stroke average of 285.08.
- The Flames enter the spring season looking to capture their eighth conference title since 2011 and their first as a member of Conference USA.
- Liberty closed out its time in the ASUN Conference by winning the title in record fashion when the Flames posted a 53-under par 811 (275-261-275) in the championship event.
- Liberty captured the conference title five times as a member of the Big South Conference (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018) and twice as a member of the ASUN Conference (2021 and 2023).
- The Flames have advanced to the NCAA Regionals 11 of the last 12 regional events and to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship four times in program history (2012, 2019, 2021 and 2022).
