LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 18-ranked Liberty shut out visiting Appalachian State by a 5-0 score on Sunday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
The Lady Flames bolster their overall record to 6-5 and snap a two-match losing skid following the non-conference victory to close out the weekend. Meanwhile, App State falls to 7-4 and sees its own five-match winning streak ended.
Liberty earns its third shutout of 2024 and first since a 1-0 home victory over No. 4 Duke on Sept. 15 in Lynchburg. Lady Flames senior Tuti Dell Anna paced the offense with two goals. Ella Murphy, Ellie Livingston and Lou Combrinck added one goal each, and freshman Dara Semmartin notched two assists.

Liberty defender Ella Murphy put the home side on the board with a penalty corner goal in the 20th minute, assisted by Reagan Underwood and Nicole Enslin. The Lady Flames added to the lead just before halftime, as Tuti Dell Anna redirected a ball from Dara Semmartin on a penalty corner for her fifth goal of the season.
Leading 2-0 at the break, the hosts added a goal just 39 seconds into the third quarter. Senior midfielder Ellie Livingston scored a sliding goal from the right side on a penalty corner to build the lead to 3-0. Liberty's final two tallies came from the sticks of Lou Combrinck (39:33 mark) and Tuti Dell Anna (41:40 mark).
