
Second Half Scoring Barrage Lifts No. 9 Liberty Past Providence, 5-2

Liberty sophomore Lou Combrinck scored her first two collegiate goals, while senior Ellie Livingston tallied her first career goal as well. Additionally, Tuti Dell Anna scored a goal for the third straight game, and Martu Cian added her second marker of the 2023 season.
The Lady Flames improve to 8-1 on the year, 2-0 in BIG EAST play and 6-0 at home. Liberty bolsters its all-time record against Providence to 10-0. The Friars slip to 4-4 on the year and 0-2 in league matches.

Turning Point
Liberty led 1-0 midway through the third quarter when Providence midfielder Lisa McNamara evened the game up at 1-all with a shot into the right side of the cage at the 37:17 mark. Shortly after McNamara's goal, the Lady Flames responded to retake the lead. Ellie Livingston found the back of the cage on a redirect from in front (37:54 mark), assisted by Kyleigh Faust.
Liberty tacked on two more goals to go up 4-1, one just over a minute later (39:10 mark) from Tuti Dell Anna and one from Martu Cian early in the fourth quarter (46:02 mark).
The Lady Flames' fifth and final goal of the day came courtesy of Combrinck. Cian dribbled into the right corner and found the stick of Milagros Arteta. Arteta sent a pass into the middle to Combrinck, who one-timed a shot past Friars goalkeeper Asia Porter.
Key Stats & Notes
- Jodie Conolly notched her team-best seventh assist of the season and fifth assist in the last five contests. Conolly is up to 29 career assists and is one shy of becoming the seventh player in school history with 30 or more.
- Combrinck is the second Lady Flame this season to score two goals. Bethany Dykema recorded two goals in a 3-1 road win over No. 6 Virginia, Aug. 29.
- Combrinck's first career goal came at the 3:11 mark on a penalty corner, assisted by Conolly.
- Livingston's first career goal today came in what was her 26th career appearance. The Lancaster, Pa. native entered the day with one career assist and 13 shots (eight on goal).
- Dell Anna, who made the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday, has scored one goal in each of her last three games.
- Faust's assist was the first of her career.
- Liberty's five goals are a 2023 season high and most since also scoring five times in 5-0 triumph at Villanova on Oct. 7, 2022.
- Liberty held a 12-4 edge in total shots and 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Flames earned four penalty corner chances to Providence's two.
- This is the second straight meeting in Lynchburg that Liberty and Providence have played to a 5-2 result. During the fall 2021 campaign (Oct. 22, 2021), the Lady Flames bested the Friars 5-2 as well.
- Liberty improves to 5-0 all-time at home against Providence. In those five contests, the Lady Flames have outscored the Friars 19-4.
- Liberty has now won 13 straight matches against unranked teams, a streak that started on Sept. 11, 2022.
