WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Liberty women's soccer team improved to 4-0 in 2023 after shutting out UNCW on the road 3-0, Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Allison Hanford led the way for Liberty with two goals.
Forward Ivy Garner opened the scoring after defender Bridie Herman headed a goal kick from goalkeeper Ainsley Leja toward Garner. The sophomore received the ball just outside the 18-yard box and dribbled in, sneaking a shot past UNCW's keeper for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Flames defense did not allow a shot by UNCW until the 61st minute of the game.

Thoughts from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"It was a really hard situation for the team to play on Friday night, have a long bus ride, and then play a fresh team in high heat and humidity," Coach Wedemeyer said. "We played a great game, we created tons of chances, and we got solid contributions from almost the whole team.
Key Stats and Notes
Liberty looks to remain unbeaten when it travels to Farmville, Va. to take on Longwood (1-1-1) on Thursday. The match is set to kick off at 6 p.m. at the Longwood Athletics Complex.
