FARMVILLE, Va. – The Liberty women's soccer team topped Longwood 2-1, Thursday night to improve to 5-0 in 2023. The victory extends the Lady Flames' unbeaten streak to 18 games (15-0-3), the best current streak among all NCAA Division I programs in the country.

During the second half, the Lady Flames grabbed a crucial goal from forward Ivy Garner. Allison Hansford intercepted a Longwood goal kick and passed the ball ahead to a streaking Garner who ran past the defense for the score during the 51st minute.
Longwood narrowed the lead to 2-1 following a free kick that rolled into the goal after pinballing off bodies in the penalty box. Liberty clamped down on defense during the final 20 minutes, dominating possession to put the game away.
Scoring Summary
22' – Liberty – Ava Goodman
51' – Liberty – Ivy Garner (Allison Hansford)
69' – Longwood – Emma Jones
Thoughts from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"The first half was a bit choppy for us. We certainly created some decent chances, but it was just kind of inconsistent. I thought the second half was much better as we had better control of the game. Longwood is a good team and they fought right to the end."
