LYNCHBURG, Va. – Claudia Acin, a point guard from Girona, Spain, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2023-24 academic year.
Acin, who has gained valuable experience playing for Basquet Girona, is the sixth member of the Lady Flames' incoming freshman class. Liberty's other five freshmen include three guards from the United States (Asia Boone, Brooke Moore and Ella Wigal) and a pair of Iceland natives (Elisabeth Aegisdottir and Emma Hjordisardottir).
Claudia Acin (G, 5-8, Girona, Spain)
Acin, who graduated from Les Alzines in Girona, was named the Catalonia U18 League MVP for the 2022-23 season.
She averaged 18 points, four assists and three steals per contest for Basquet Girona this past season, helping her team to first place in the Catalonia U18 League and fifth in the Spanish Championship.
"Liberty is a university that really caught my attention," Acin explained. "On one hand, I think it's a great place with very kind people and a beautiful atmosphere. On the other hand, it has a very big arena and very nice facilities. Also, I think Liberty is in a very competitive conference, and I am very excited to be able to contribute."
What They're Saying about Claudia Acin
"We are excited to have Claudia bring her Spanish national and international basketball experiences to our Liberty women's basketball family. Her high basketball IQ and understanding will be valuable at the lead guard position. She has the ability to quickly read and react in game situations for the execution of a team's system at a high level. Her exceptional vision and passing skills will involve everyone on the court. I especially love her ballhandling skills combined with the ability to read the actions in a ball screen situation. We welcome her ability to score at all three levels on the court. Claudia will help our program advance to a higher level of play."
Carey Green, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach
"Claudia is a player who reads the spaces very well in order to attack the defense. She is brilliant in getting to the place she wants to on the court. Claudia is extremely disciplined and competitive, impacting the entire team."
