
Liberty Rallies Past Sam Houston 3-1

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - For the second day in a row, Liberty fell behind 1-0 before winning the next three sets, claiming a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-21) over Sam Houston, Saturday at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Lady Flames (13-11) leveled their CUSA record at 6-6 with their fifth win in their last six matches. Meanwhile, Sam Houston (7-20, 1-13) dropped its eighth straight match.

The Lady Flames return to Lynchburg for their final two regular-season home matches, taking on Louisiana Tech on Thursday and Friday at Liberty Arena.

- For the match, Liberty outhit Sam Houston .222-.099. It was the third time in CUSA play the Lady Flames have held an opponent below .100 in hitting percentage. The Lady Flames led in kills (63-35), assists (61-31), aces (4-3) and digs (73-58), while the Bearkats held an 11-10 edge in blocks.
- Kamryn Bacus scored a match-high 20 kills for Liberty, adding two aces, 13 digs and two blocks. Meanwhile, Kate Phillips scored 18 kills and also contributed a match-high 17 digs and three blocks. Delaney Dilfer dished out a match-high 55 assists, while Madison Blane totaled 14 kills (.433) and six blocks. Erica Lowery collected 16 digs, while Lily Wagner registered six kills and 12 digs.
- Hailey Heider led the Bearkats with 10 kills, adding three aces and 10 digs. Avery Fowler dished out 18 assists and collected a team-high 16 digs, while Hannah Baker totaled 13 digs. McKenzie Morvant turned in eight kills and six blocks, while Michael Panekova and Jaylibeth Garcia-Rose both posted five blocks.
- Liberty ran away with set three, 25-11, to take a 2-1 match lead. The Bearkats fought back in the fourth, leading 18-16 before a four-point run put the Lady Flames back ahead. Sam Houston tied it at 20-all, but a pair of Blane kills helped Liberty pull away for the 25-21 win and match victory.
- Liberty is now 2-0 all-time against Sam Houston State in volleyball, winning each of the first two meetings between these two teams.
- Liberty's 25-11 win in set three was its largest single-set margin of victory this season and largest since defeating Bellarmine 25-7 in set three on Nov. 13, 2022.
- Dilfer tied her season high with 55 assists (also Oct. 4 against Western Kentucky). It was her second 50-assist match in a row, forth of the season and 21st of her career.
- Blane scored 10 or more kills for the ninth time in the last 10 matches. She has registered five or more blocks 14 times this season and 25 times for her career.
- Bacus and Phillips are tied for the team lead with 14 double-digit kill matches this season. Bacus' five 20-kill matches are the most by a Lady Flame since 2016, when Leah Clayton scored 20 or more kills seven times.
- Phillips recorded her fifth double-double of the season and 23rd for her career, while Bacus posted her fifth double-double this season and 10th career.
- Liberty lost the first set in both matches this weekend before winning each match. The Lady Flames are 4-9 in matches this season in which they have fallen in set one.
