
Liberty Falls to WKU in Straight Sets

LYNCHBURG, Va. -Â Liberty battled against defending Conference USA champion WKU, falling in straight sets (25-13, 26-24, 25-20) on Saturday at Liberty Arena.
With the win, its second sweep of the Lady Flames in as many days, WKU (24-5, 15-1) clinches a share of its seventh straight CUSA regular-season title. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames (20-9, 8-8) finish in a tie for fifth place in CUSA standings. Â
The Hilltoppers tied with UTEP for the regular-season title, with the Miners taking the No. 1 seed due to a secondary tiebreaker. The Lady Flames finished in a tie with Jacksonville State and won a tiebreaker (winning percentage against common opponents) over the Gamecocks for the fifth seed.

     The Lady Flames will serve as the No. 5 seed for the CUSA Volleyball Championship, hosted by FIU in Miami, Fla. Liberty will take on No. 4 seed FIU in the quarterfinals, Friday at 2 p.m., with the winner taking on the winner of No. 1 seed UTEP and No. 8 seed Missouri State, Saturday at noon. Â

Notable Numbers
- WKU outhit Liberty .345-.171. The Hilltoppers also led in kills (51-37), aces (5-2), digs (60-38) and blocks (8-6). Â
- Alicia Skikdmore scored a match-high 14 kills, followed by 13 from Kaira Knox and 11 (.611 hitting percentage) from Faith Young. Callie Bauer totaled 37 assists, four kills, seven digs and three blocks, while Tayler Baron recorded three aces and a match-high 14 digs. Izzy Van De Wiele posted five blocks, while Kennedy Cherry collected 10 digs.
- Paige Overcash scored 13 kills at a .324 pace for the Lady Flames, while Carly O'Brien hit .391 with 12 kills to go along with eight digs. Alison Bierwagen posted a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs. Aubrey Acheson collected nine digs, while Shyia Richardson served up two aces and Layla Collins registered five blocks.Â
- After a 25-13 WKU win in set one, the second set featured 18 ties and nine lead changes. With Liberty trailing 23-21, Overcash scored a kill and Layla Collins factored in on two blocks during a 3-0 rally to give the Lady Flames a set point try. However, Knox tied it with a kill. WKU's Camila Adams then came on to serve for the first time in the match, serving the final two points, including an ace that trickled off the tape and down on Liberty's side for the 26-24 win.Â
- WKU is 7-0 all-time against Liberty in volleyball.
- Overcash has reached double figures in kills in each of the last six matches and 12 out of the last 14. She has posted 22 double-digit kill matches so far this year.
- Bierwagen posted her 10th career double-double, joining Carly O'Brien (14) with 10 or more double-doubles. Prior to this season, the last time two Lady Flames had 10 or more double-doubles in same year was 2022 (Delaney Dilfer – 17; Kate Gammer – 12).
- Richardson was honored with a senior day ceremony following the match.Â
