
WKU Earns Sweep at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. -Â Western Kentucky earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) sweep over Liberty, Friday at Liberty Arena.
The Hilltoppers (23-5, 14-1 CUSA) maintain at least a tie for first place in conference standings with one day left in the regular season. The Lady Flames saw their four-match winning streak end, with Liberty (20-8, 8-7) currently standing fifth in CUSA.Â

     The Lady Flames and Hilltoppers close out the regular season tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Liberty Arena. Liberty will have a postmatch senior day ceremony for Shyia Richardson.

- WKU outhit Liberty .346-.196 for the match. The Toppers led in kills (48-35), aces (4-2), digs (47-40) and blocks (9-4).
- Keira Knox scored a match-high 13 kills at a .571 pace for WKU, while Faith Young totaled 11 kills and five blocks and Alivia Skidmore sent down nine kills. Callie Bauer registered 38 assists, five kills, two aces and eight digs, while Tayler Baron collected a match-high 19 digs.
- Paige Overcash hit .400 with 10 kills for the Lady Flames, while Jenna Otts scored eight kills and Laney Daniell (seven kills) hit .500. Alison Bierwagen dished out 19 assists, while Shyia Richardson collected 12 digs and Layla Collins posted three blocks.Â
- Set two featured 13 ties and four lead changes. The Lady Flames trimmed the deficit to 24-22 with kills by Overcash and Carly O'Brien. However, Young clinched the two-set lead with a kill for WKU.
- WKU is 6-0 all-time against Liberty in volleyball.
- This was just the first time this season that the Lady Flames have been swept at home.
- Otts had scored 10 or more kills in each of the last 11 matches heading into tonight. Her 11-match streak of double-digit kill matches was Liberty's longest since Hannah Weidner scored 10 or more kills in 19 straight matches, Sept. 6 through Oct. 18, 2014.
- Overcash has reached double figures in kills in each of the last five matches and 11 out of the last 13. She has posted 21 double-digit kill matches so far this year.
- Richardson posted her 11th double-digit dig match this season.
