
No. 4 Seed FIU Sweeps 5th-Seeded Liberty in CUSA Quarters

MIAMI, Fla. - The host team, No. 4 seed FIU, swept fifth-seeded Liberty (25-16, 25-18, 25-22) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 CUSA Volleyball Championship at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Panthers (19-11) advance to the semifinals, taking on No. 8 seed Missouri State tomorrow at noon. The Bears swept the No. 1 seed UTEP this afternoon to open the CUSA Volleyball Championship quarterfinals.
The Lady Flames fall to 20-10 on the season. They will await word on possible selection to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), a tournament in which Liberty competed in both 2019 and 2022.

- FIU outhit Liberty .426-.091 for the match. The Panthers also led in kills (48-27), digs (37-34) and blocks (10-2), while both teams served up four aces.
- Rebekah Pfefferkorn hit .500 and led all players with 13 kills, followed by Kira Givens with 12 kills and a .524 clip. Sofie Vogel sent down 10 kills at a .769 pace and added a match-high seven blocks. Savannah Cook totaled 41 assists and 10 digs.
- Carly O'Brien, Jenna Otts and Paige Overcash scored seven kills each for the Lady Flames. O'Brien served up a match-high three aces, while Molly Littlefield collected a team-best seven digs. Alison Bierwagen led Liberty with 14 assists.
- FIU won the first two sets in commanding fashion, 25-16 and 25-18, with the Panthers sustaining just two combined hitting errors during that span.
- The Lady Flames led set three by as many as four points, at 12-8. Liberty's last lead came at 17-16 on a kill by Otts. FIU went on an 8-4 run to take a 24-21 advantage. Liberty fought off one match-point try, but the Panthers then cashed in on a kill by Pfefferkorn to seal the sweep.
- FIU is 6-2 all-time against Liberty in volleyball, with the Panthers winning each of the last six meetings including all three this year.
- Liberty has fallen in the CUSA quarterfinals each of the last three seasons.
- This was the second season in a row in which Liberty faced the CUSA Volleyball Championship host in the quarterfinals, as the Lady Flames fell at UTEP last season.
