LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty defeated the visiting FIU Panthers 3-1 (25-16, 26-24, 19-25, 25-19) on Friday at Liberty Arena to open this weekend's series.
Earning its third win in a row, Liberty improved to 11-10 on the season, including 4-5 in Conference USA matches. Meanwhile, FIU (9-14, 5-4) dropped its fifth match in a row.

Notable Numbers
- For the match, FIU outhit Liberty .266 to .242. The Lady Flames led in kills (58-46), assists (51-46) and aces (8-6), while the Panthers held the advantage in both digs (64-58) and blocks (12-7.5)
- Three Lady Flames (Kate Phillips, Kamryn Bacus, Madison Blane) scored 15 kills apiece. Blane hit .440 while adding four blocks, while Kate Phillips also contributed three aces and nine digs. Bacus added a career-high 15 digs, three aces and three blocks to her 15 kills. Delaney Dilfer dished out 41 assists while also recording nine digs and three blocks. Erica Lowery, playing for the first time since Sept. 10, started at Liberty and registered six assists and 12 digs.
- Jade Sadeiko hit .462 with 15 kills for FIU, while Syra Tanchin totaled 14 kills and 17 digs. Amber Beals collected a match-high 20 digs, while Travel Morris led all players with six blocks. Savannah Cook dished out a match-high 42 assists.
- Liberty raced to a 25-16 set-one victory, but had to work overtime to win the second set, 26-24.
- After the visitors took set three 25-19 to extend the match, Liberty used a late 5-0 surge to pull out to a 22-16 lead on the way to the six-point set win.
- Liberty leads the all-time series at 2-0 against FIU, with the only other meeting resulting in a 3-0 sweep for the Lady Flames, Sept. 23, 1994.
- Kamryn Bacus recorded her 1,000th career kills during tonight's match. She has scored 1,011 career kills between her time at Lipscomb and Liberty. Of her 1,011 career kills, 585 have come since transferring to Liberty prior to the 2022 season.
- Tonight was the first time since Sept. 7 at Hawai'i where three Lady Flames recorded 15 or more kills in the same match.
- Bacus recorded her eighth career double-double and third of the season.
- Liberty is 9-7 in sets decided by two points this year and 6-2 in extended sets.
- Blane tied her career high with 15 kills tonight.
- Prior to tonight, the last player to score her 1,000th career kill as a Lady Flame was Anna Gragg, Dec. 7, 2019 against La Salle in the first round of the NIVC.
