Lady Flames Fall to Panthers in Straight Sets

LYNCHBURG, Va. - FIU snapped a five-match winless streak, sweeping Liberty (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) in three tightly-contested sets, Saturday at Liberty Arena.
FIU improved to 10-14, 6-4 in CUSA play with its first win since Oct. 3, a 3-2 victory over Middle Tennessee. The Lady Flames fell to 11-11, including 4-6 in conference matches. With three weeks to go in the regular season, FIU sits in fourth place in CUSA standings, while Liberty is in sixth place at 4-6.

Liberty heads to Texas for the second of three times this season, competing against Sam Houston on Friday and Saturday in Huntsville, Texas.

- For the match, FIU outhit Liberty .200 to .104. The Lady Flames led in kills (40-39), assists (37-34) and digs (52-46). The Panthers held the advantage in blocks (11-7.5) and aces (4-2).
- Yasso Amin scored 11 kills at a .500 pace for FIU, while Jade Sadieko followed with 10 kills. Travel Morris posted a match-high six blocks, while Amber Beals led all players in both aces (2) and digs (16). Savannah Cook dished out a match-high 32 assists.
- Liberty's Madison Blane tied for the match high with 11 kills, also tying Julia Mangum for the team lead with five blocks. Erica Lowery collected 10 digs, followed by nine each by Kate Phillips and Lily Wagner. Delaney Dilfer dished out 25 assists. Brooke Elliott scored a caeer-high five kills, while Charli Morris assisted on 10 kills in the third set.
- Liberty led set one 22-21, but FIU's Morris scored two kills and assisted on a block as the Panthers rallied to win the set, 25-23.
- With FIU leading 2-0 in sets and 9-3 in set three, the Lady Flames went to a two-setter system. Liberty battled back into the lead, 15-12 and still led at 21-19 on Elliott's fourth kill of the set. However, four Liberty errors helped fuel a match-clinching 6-1 run for the visitors.
- FIU earned its first-ever win over Liberty in volleyball, as the Lady Flames lead the all-time series 2-1 after the two teams split this weekend's series.
- Blane scored 10 or more kills for the seventh time in the last eight matches. She has now posted eight double-digit kill matches this season and 15 for her career. Today also marked the 12th time this season and 23rd time in her career that Blane has recorded five or more blocks in a single match.
- Liberty is 9-8 in sets decided by two points this year.
- Lowery played in her first match since Sept. 10 last night, and has collected 10 or more digs in each of her first two matches back in the lineup.
