
Flames Finish in 6th Place at Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational

VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Flames had their best showing of the early 2023-24 season with a sixth-place finish at the 2023 Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational.
Liberty finished the Michigan State-hosted event with an 18-under par 846 (285-274-287) following three trips around the Quail Valley Golf Club (par 72, 7,460 yards).
The Flames Josh Ryan paced Liberty's efforts at the two-day event where he individually finished in fifth place with an 11-under par 205 (71-65-69).
During the event, Ryan matched his low 18-hole career total (7-under par 65 during the second round) and posted his second career top-five finish. His 11-under par 205 also matches the second-lowest 54-hole total of his young Flames' career.
South Florida and Toledo distanced themselves from the rest of the 16-team field. South Florida claimed the team title with a 38-under par 826 (275-273-278), finishing one shot clear of Toledo's 37-under par 827 (276-272-279).
Besides Ryan's strong effort for the Flames, Isaac Simmons made a push up the leaderboard after a tough opening round. The redshirt season posted back-to-back rounds in red figures and finished tied for 32nd place with a 2-under par 214 (74-70-70).
Liberty's best finish of the 2023-24 was aided by the Flames' lengthy off the tee, especially at the long No. 3 par-5 (627 yards). Liberty finished the tournament with a combined 11 birdies and an eagle on the hole and with 26 total birdies on all par-5 holes.
