
Reid Leads Flames to Top of Leaderboard at Ka’anapali Classic

LAHAINA, Hawaii - Liberty's Brett Reid carded a career-low 18-hole total during the first round of the Ka'anapali Classic, pushing the Flames to the top of the leaderboard on Thursday.
Reid fired a 7-under par 64, offsetting two bogeys with nine birdies, during the event's first trip around the Ka'anapali Golf Club - Royal Ka'anapali Course (par 71, 6,700 yards).
The junior is currently tied for second place in the 120-man field and trails clubhouse leader Robbie Higgins of North Florida by one stroke (8-under par 63) following the opening round.
As a team, Liberty stands four shots clear of Georgia and leads the 20-team field after a 22-under par 262. The score is the second-lowest 18-hole team total in program history.
Georgia is in second place after an 18-under par 266, followed by third-place San Jose State's 15-under par 269.
Liberty led the field on the day with 30 birdies and played the par-4 holes at 11-under par (3.80 scoring average) and the par-5 holes at 10-under par (4.33 scoring average).
Liberty currently has three Flames inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Josh Ryan is currently tied for fifth place after a 6-under par 65.
Isaac Simmons used an eagle on the par-4, No. 7 hole (324 yards) to help him finish the day tied for eighth place with a 5-under par 66.
The 20-team field will return to the course on Friday morning for the second round of action with play getting underway at 8:30 a.m. HST/2:30 p.m. EST.
