
Hansford, Garner Score as Lady Flames Top UTEP 2-1

EL PASO, Texas. – The Liberty women's soccer team grabbed three points in a critical road match, besting UTEP 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Allison Hansford opened the scoring and Ivy Garner earned the game-winning that broke a 1-1 tie in the 81' minute.
Following the result, Liberty moves to 13-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 (13 points) in the Conference USA standings. The Lady Flames move into sole possession of second place in CUSA.
Hansford got the scoring started, rushing past the UTEP defense in 13' minute. The Flames have scored first in 12 of their matches this season.
Following a UTEP goal off an Emerson Kidd free-kick to even the score at 1-1, Ivy Garner secured a rebound off a Haleigh Arostegui deep shot that bounced directly toward the Liberty forward. While fighting off a defender, Garner was able to push the rebound just past the Miners' keeper to re-gain the lead.

Liberty returns to Lynchburg to host Western Kentucky (5-3-7, 3-1-2 CUSA) on Saturday at Osborne Stadium. The match will be Liberty's final home contest of the 2023 season.
