
Efficient Offense Sends Lady Flames to 3-0 Sweep Over Gamecocks

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Liberty hit a season-high .369 on the way to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) sweep of Jacksonville State to complete a weekend sweep, Saturday at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Lady Flames improved to 10-10 on the season including 3-5 in Conference USA action with their second win in a row and third in the last four matches. Jacksonville State (4-14, 2-6) has been swept in six straight contests after beginning CUSA play 2-0.

Liberty returns home and will host FIU, Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. at Liberty Arena.

- For the match, Liberty outhit Jax State .369-.110. The Lady Flames led in kills (36-30), assists (31-26), aces (6-4), digs (44-35) and blocks (8-1).
- Liberty outside hitters Kamryn Bacus and Kate Phillips tied for the match high with eight kills each, as Phillips added two aces, 11 digs and three blocks. Madison Blane contributed six kills (.600) and a match-high seven blocks, while Delaney Dilfer posted 27 assists, two aces and six digs. Julia Mangum hit 7-0-9 (.778), while Lily Wagner collected a match-high 12 digs and Zoi Sherolli corralled nine digs.
- Maddie Stayer led the Gamecocks with seven kills, while Kathryn Smith dished out a team-high 13 assists and Brooklyn Schiffli collected 10 digs.
- Liberty cruised to 25-17 and 25-12 wins in the first two sets. However, Jax State built a 14-12 lead in set three. The Lady Flames then staged a 6-0 run during which they posted four consecutive blocks and jumped ahead 18-14. The Gamecocks narrowed the gap to 20-19 on an ace from Schiffli, but Liberty scored the final five points of the match to complete the sweep.
- Liberty has knotted the all-time series with Jacksonville State at 2-2. The Gamecocks had won the previous two meetings, including a 3-2 win at Liberty on Oct. 1, 2022.
- This is the first time since Oct. 26, 2018 at NJIT and Oct. 28, 2018 at North Alabama that Liberty posted back-to-back sweeps where the opponent did not reach 20 points in any set.
- Prior to this weekend, the last time Liberty swept an opponent on back-to-back days on the road was Feb. 13-14, 2021 at North Alabama.
- Liberty's .369 hitting percentage was the team's highest of the season and best since hitting .388 (64-12-134) at Bellarmine, Oct. 7, 2022.
- The Lady Flames' five attack errors were their fewest since committing just five attack errors against The Citadel, Sept. 17, 2011 in Raleigh, N.C.
- In both matches this weekend, Liberty won set one 25-17 and set three 25-19. The Lady Flames posted a 25-12 set-two win today after winning the second set 25-15 last night.
