
Liberty Sweeps KSU for Big ASUN Victory

Liberty remained unbeaten in ASUN play, sweeping the visiting Kennesaw State Owls (25-23, 25-18, 25-19), Friday at Liberty Arena.
The Lady Flames (10-5) and Owls (9-4) entered the match as two out of four teams tied at the top of the ASUN standings with matching 2-0 ASUN records. Liberty, which extends its winning streak to four matches overall, earned it first-ever win over KSU in volleyball.
Notable Numbers
• Liberty outhit Kennesaw State .150-.073 for the match. The Lady Flames also led in blocks (12-8), digs (51-46) and aces (4-3).
• Kamryn Bacus led all players with 14 kills while adding two aces and four blocks. Lydia Burts posted six blocks, while Madison Blane and Trinity Watts recorded five blocks each. Delaney Dilfer recorded her 13th career double-double and seventh this season, with 24 assists and 17 digs. Erica Lowery totaled 10 assists and 13 digs for her first career double-double.
• Jasmine Brown scored a team-high seven kills for KSU, while Claire Parsons posted a match-high seven blocks. McKinley Ferguson totaled 25 assists, two aces and six blocks. Shelby Dennis collected a match-high 21 digs.
Turning Point
• Liberty jumped out to a quick start in set one, carrying a five-point lead for a majority of the set. The Lady Flames led 21-16 before KSU staged a 7-3 rally to narrow the gap to 24-23. After a Liberty timeout, an Owl service ace sealed Liberty’s 25-23 win.
Quick Hits
• Liberty earned its first-ever win over the Owls, as KSU won each if the first 13 meetings in the series.
• Kennesaw State entered the match with a .247 hitting percentage for the season. Tonight was KSU’s lowest hitting percentage of the season.
• Liberty is one of three ASUN teams to open conference play at 3-0 this season, joining Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb.
• Lowery is the first Liberty libero with a double-double since Sept. 26, 2014 against Radford, when Gabrielle Shipe totaled 10 assists and 24 digs.
• The Lady Flames have posted four 3-0 sweeps in a row, beginning Sept. 17 against Eastern Michigan. Prior to this stretch, the last time Liberty recorded four or more straight sweeps was Nov. 3-16, 2012, when the Lady Flames posted five consecutive sweeps.
• The Lady Flames have started this season at 10-5. That’s the fastest that Liberty has reached 10 wins since opening the 2019 season with a 10-5 record through 15 matches.
